Web Chat: Widget World Cup

, , ,

Have you been following Opera's Widget World Cup? If you have, you know that it's your chance to win up to €3,000 for making widgets. Some countries are close to qualifying. But some countries haven't even entered, which means you might have a very easy chance of winning at least €1,000. So why not tune in to our next Web chat this Thursday from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM CET? We'll answer any questions you have about the Widget World Cup including the rules, how you can promote your widget and maybe we'll even help you think of a few ways to spend the money you win.

As we have before, we'll use the #webapps channel. Also, you can feel free to post questions early in the comments to this blog post or on the forums.

Hope you all can join us.

I need an agent to start putting the word out on my widgets, I just keep pushing! But I see no way of stoping!

Welcome

It's not that easy. There have to be at least 10 widgets with a 1000 downloads in one week in one country for one of them to win the national prize. If one of the country's haven't even entered yet, then you need to make at least 10 good widgets for it (and you have to live in that country of course).
For example, Russia's submitted 31 widgets, yet none of them meet the 1000 downloads in a week requirement. 10 of them have to do so before any will win!
It's not that easy, unless I misunderstood the rules.

@Albertrosa: I for one am always checking out your new Widgets, you have some cool ideas.

Jadd: You're right in the sense that the bar might be a bit high. So we'll lower it. We'll make it 5 widgets and 500 downloads of each widget. Right now that means the following countries have qualified:

Australia
Austria
Brazil
Germany
Poland
Russia
UK
US

Italy is on the cusp of qualifying and I'm sure some more countries will qualify soon. We're making the necessary adjustments to the Widget World Cup page now.

Hope this gets people jazzed.

Wow, thomas  Since the only entered widgets from Canada are my own three, this changes everything. Now I only have to make two new widgets instead of seven! This was really the only reason why I was so meh about going for it.

This doesn't leave me a lot of time though... and my Crossword widget still hasn't broken the 500 weekly download mark yet.

I'm working on a couple really great widgets now, but please download my crossword puzzle widget everyone and help me qualify!

Since it seems that others have been advertizing their widgets here, I'll do the same!

Thanks for your time
Finland thanks for your support, we have only one widget with over 500 downloads in a week listed at the moment but I have some strong candidates, I hope!

I also have a few ideas in the works, so look forward to seeing something neat
