Losing It!

After 21 years of awesome cooking and eating pretty much anything I want I’ve made the choice to “Diet”. Naturally age has caused my metabolism to slow. At least that's what I'm blaming for the weight gain. Certainly I would not blame my wife's ability to cook anything with world class results nor my Olympic sized appetite for great food. (We've been married for 21 years this September, Woot!)
So far I’ve lost 10 pounds. In 3 weeks. Actually I lost that in 2 weeks and stalled a bit. No I haven’t cheated. I have yet to exercise very much beyond my normal walking at work. I’m planning on increasing my “activity” to start the downward trend again in the numbers. Actually I don’t trust the scales all that much, and will let a reduction of girth be the final proof of loss.
A friend suggested “Go get ya some Niki’s” (Thanks Steven) I’ll probably just use the tennis shoes I have. After all they took me to the dinner table plenty of times, so they should carry me to loose it. It’s only fitting. Most of my favorite foods are meats so the obvious choice of diet for me was The Atkins Plan. They have a good site as well except they need a Login button on the main front page. It's fairly informative about different plans and nutrition etc.
The food I eat is just what we prepare at home except for some of the Atkin's low carb snacks. (I know this sounds like sales stuff but I was amazed at the taste) One of my favorite candy bars is Mounds. (The chocolate covered coconut bars) The Atkin's "mounds" bar is so close it's amazing. and I can actually eat it since it doesn't taste "diet". I've never been able to eat low fat diet food or drink diet colas. Science has come a long way, just in time.
My plan is to have a regular Thanksgiving meal as a reward for loosing the weight but I can't just start eating like I used to again. I want to keep it off. Maybe I'll do a before and after pic here when I reach my goal. Hopefully by Christmas.
Oh, and you can still get some cool T-shirts:

About five years ago, I lost 20 lbs just by cutting out all fast foods. I had such a crazy job schedule that it was impossible to sit down to a nicely cooked meal. The first ten I gained was when I waitressed at a restaurant. It was known for their rich sauces and desserts. We got one meal free each shift and one pastry. Plus, of all things, I was in charge of the pastry counter.
I have maintained my weight since then but would like to lose 10 or 15 more lbs because I know it would ease the arthritis pain in weight bearing joints. Increasing activity would be the only way because there isn't much I can cut out of my food intake. Of course, I suppose I could cut out the occasional glass of wine or piece of chocolate cake but those are my only vices and it is only on rare occasions I enjoy them.

BridgeBuilderKiwi, yes I eat lots of salad, love Romain lettuce. I love broccoli as well and will steam it with other vegis, salt, pepper, garlic and butter. (Atkins has no problem with a bit of butter) Mmmnnn.
PainterWoman, thanks. My job has a lot of sit down work (naturally as a video editor/animator) I'll get walking ASAP.
If you can't have a moderate amount of what you like why even bother.
