Evaluations

, , , , , , ,

Some evaluations are quick and easy...

Some evaluations are quick and easy. “Is the pizza ready?...Yep, take it out” Some take more time than they should, “ Is this shirt too casual for a meeting with a client? What does the client usually wear? Are they going to think I’m over dressed and what will that do to the mood of the meeting?” Way too much thinking on that one. “I’m wearing what feels good…I’m a Creative!” Usually works for me.

We try to evaluate how a political candidate will serve once in office by what they do and say on the campaign trail. Comparing that to what their opponents are doing and saying. Now that is shaky ground. Examples of how well that works/fails are too numerous to list. Yet still we try and make our best guess. What else can we do? We usually end up listening to someone we know or trust.

My work involves evaluating software. I choose to add this to my monthly load because I have made it part of my creative process to always work at improving the final product. Most of the software I look at is the newest release of proven programs I am already using. Some apps are unknown to me but look interesting. Usually it takes about a minute to decide whether or not I’ll be adding the program to my tool chest.

People are sometimes evaluated the same way. And in the same few seconds. The old First Impression thing is usually right. On the other hand once we get to really know the person it is rare if they are not more interesting, kinder, deeper and more caring than we may have assumed in our first impression. I say rarely because there are those exceptions that cross our paths that are shall we say…less than kind, more arrogant or just plain rude. But thank God they come along only once in a while. Many times after our contact with this person we find that others have had a similar not so pleasant experience with this person.

I’m sure there are those who have evaluated me in the same way and had a not so pleasant experience for whatever reason and they think I’m rude or arrogant. (They would be wrong naturally.) So, when I meet one of these, some call them, “E.G.R.” (Extra Grace Required people) I try to remember that. Not that it really changes my evaluation of the people. Avoiding them is sometimes all one can do.

It is just plain silly to think we are not going to evaluate things and people without bias or with a certain personal view point. That also goes for the press. I don’t mind someone giving their opinion about something they are reporting, but when it is accompanied by a lie about them being unbiased, unslanted. Give me a break, get real and stop trying to pass yourselves of as “non-partisan”. Everyone sees what you’re doing, everyone knows where you are coming from. Stop wetting our legs-we know it aint raining, as they say. Maybe one day the media will give up the charade and come right out and tell us what we already know. No wonder they are not trusted.

So go ahead and evaluate this and let me know what you think. What good is a blog if you can’t rant occasionally.

Not a rant, quite a rational appraisal. But I am biased, I agree (with euthanasia for all politicians, journalists and people who pass me when I'm running. That's how they'd get my vote.)

Then we could go after everyone who put money in their bank accounts when the wills are read.
