Open mouth insert foot. I am a passionate man, and if I believe something passionately at times I can and do end up with a size 11 foot in my flapping mouth. Passion should never spill over to idiocy but many times as the heart engages the tongue it releases the brakes of courteousness. Sooner or later it all goes careening down the mountain of thought at breakneck speed. Many times although the neck is not broken the rules of decency are shattered.
One good thing about having your foot wedged firmly between your teeth, you generally can't say much more. Being coherent and understood are goals not always held tightly enough for the passionate speaker.
Being right and knowing it are not a blank check for rudeness. One may also find with time they are not the only party holding the deed to Rightland. Flipping the deed over it might actually say Wrongsville.
A favorite Tom Hanks quote of mine is from You've Got Mail, "…Hello its Mister Nasty" Sometimes he just shows up and stinks up the place. "Forgive us our debts as we forgive..." Humble pie doesn't have much taste but it beats the flavor of foot.
