Me Morbid

A jman2050 has begun uploading a video playthrough of La-Mulana, complete with detailed notes. This could prove to be helpful to some, or at the very least interesting viewing. The first segment is here, with notes here.

On a related point, has anyone attempted a La-Mulana speedrun? Despite subsequent attempts I've still not managed to best my fastest run. Insofar as I am aware the fastest clear time is still three hours and fifteen minutes; has anyone beaten that?

Also, a full map?

Ive gotten the 3 seals (all cept the death seal) and chain whip, knife, axe, spear, flairgun, feather, serpant staff, ice cape..etc.. and i also beat 4 bosses (the first 4 i believe).. and i gave the fairy the divine rom or whatever.. so i can briefly use them at times now.. Im totally lost on where to go. i keep looking for something i missed or whatever or a mechanism.. Im trying to get into the moonlight pyramid.. but i cant find the entrance.. i cant go into the twin labyrinth without the twin stone.. and i cant get far into the endless corrodor.. and i have NO clue what to do in the confusion gate (but i figured im not suppose to go there yet) basically.. im looking for the next step or a tip on where to go.. i really like this game so im not trying to get BIG help.. but kind of a "you might wanna check this out" or "this is your next step" and then hopefully ill figure it out any help, would be great. thanks

It seems like you DO need to be moving through the Confusion Gate. You require an item from there in order to be able to explore the Endless Corridor, which is where the Twins Statue is found. Enter the Confusion Gate from the Temple of Moonlight and navigate your way around using the invisible warps. It can be a bit...well, confusing.

If you're having a lot of trouble, you can find the warp layout (as well as the other puzzle solutions) here: http://la-mulana.s13.xrea.com/x/map01b/map01b.html .

"is there anything i need to know at the moment, about that hole in the top right of a room in the moonlight temple?"

A ladder appears there later. It's just another way to move about the ruins.

I think I must have tried every room, even the two rooms in the Legendary Tree area. Going by the red crosses and Bahamut's room, it should be two rooms higher than the highest point in the right fork, but there's nothing there. When I ran into the same problem in the Chamber of Birth, i figured it out that it had wrapped around the other side of the map. But there still isn't a room on the other side here. Do I need the correct water of life to inovke the mantras? I may have had the correct color, but exchanged it for the wrong one. No matter which color you have, the sage in the Dimensional Corridor seems to imply that its wrong. And finally, i've been all over the Guidance Gate trying to find the hidden door that supposed to be the first step in reaching Hell. The japanese hint page hints at an "angry door"??

This is a slightly awkward situation. The English language patch for La-Mulana did not exist as I was playing through the game for the first time. As a result of this I was forced to rely upon the Japanese walkthrough a great deal. It provides the solutions to the puzzles but neglects to include the reasoning behind these solutions. With the release of the English language patch I've managed to figure out many of these however, much to my embarrassment, the mantras have continued to frustrate me (it's probably painfully obvious too).

So, here we are. I can easily provide you with the exact location you are searching for however it would have to be just that — because I do not understand the puzzle I could not phrase it as a hint. Is this OK? If so, click here.

Concerning the Medicine of Life, the final Sage pretty much spelled out the method to acquiring it, didn't he? I don't know if it is necessary to invoke the mantras (baring a certain puzzle I've never had to bother with the false medicines).

...I really wish that I could be more helpful. There are just a lot of things about this game that I do not know. For example, only on my latest playthrough did I discover that it is possible to foul up the process of acquiring the Angel Shield. Every time that I play I discover something new!

As for the Hell Temple (finally something that I do know!), it is more of a "gaping door." There is also a sort of crude arrow pointing toward it. A note, you may not be able to enter it yet. I'm not really certain as to when it first becomes possible; it may be necessary to beat the game first.

Anonymous writes: You have to find the room which "faces" the boss room, in the opposing field. To establish this, you use the crosses which you've seen everywhere but which, until now, have had no apparent purpose. The cross rooms in the front and back of each field pair are understood (from several tablets) to be directly facing each other. So you find where the boss room is relative to the cross in the front, then go to the back and go to the room thats the same place relative to it. Example: You fight Tiamat at D-3 in the Dimensional Corridor, which is three rooms up and one right of the cross in that field. So you go to the Endless Corridor, find its cross at B-4, get to the room three rooms up and one right from there (C-1) and chant. The Twin Labyrinth is a little more complicated, since the front and back fields are essentially merged, but it still works as long as you treat the cross at B-1 as the front-side cross: boss was 2 down and 2 right of that cross, and the mantra point is 2 down and 2 right of the other cross. As I mentioned in my previous post, it works for Birth/Death if you wrap across the side of the map. Inferno/Ruin is fairly simple. As I was writing this, I figured it out. You fight Bahamut at C-2, which is five rooms up and one right of the cross at B-7. The cross in the Tower of the Goddess is in the scale room at C-4. Go one room right, three up to the top of the "rocket", then wrap to the bottom room in that collumn (D-5) for four, and then up one more to D-4 >,

The solution to that is in the manual. Figuring out how to use that solution is the real challenge.
