Saving settings when upgrading to the newest release of Opera 9

I had been looking for info on this topic before I upgraded to the newest v of Opera 9. So many links seemed to be older and they were telling me to back up my files. Luckily I finally found this http://www.opera.com/docs/operafiles/ it is a wonderful piece that explains the entire composition of the Opera file system, including whick ones are overwritten by a new install.

I found that I needed to save nothing. Opera 9 migrates all the settings I wanted to save. smile

Thanks Opera

Hi Wiccan,

Although your upgrade rans moothly this time, there is no telling when a stray alpha particle will kill a bit of memory, causing a GPF, ans system crash right on the seek spot in the hard drive where the NTFS links are for the File Names for Opera Configuration files.

If this sounds too Rube Goldberg-ish, then I appologize, however, and this needs to be stresed. IF your upgrade does not include plands for Disaster striking at the worst possible moment , that is an invitation for the potential for something to go wrong.

If you do back up the Data files, and the Config files, and nothing goes wrong what have you lost? Nothing but the time to implement the Backup. If it does go wrong your data [and bacon] is saved.

Point Taken. smile But since we have been at 9.0, things have run like silk for me.

Another Opyion when upgrading to a new version, is to install it into a seperate directory, That way you can play with the new version while leaving your old set up intact. Then, when you are ready to commit ti the new version you can migrate your personalized settings over.... p
