2009 isn't proving the best of years for the garden foxes (very few photographic opportunities), but this is compensated by several good sightings of foxes out and about in Sussex. Late May things changed and the Bold Vixen reappeared in the garden along with a cub.

Wakehurst Place, 2009

Wakehurst Place in Sussex, is part of Kew Garden and is home to the Millenium Seed Bank. It's also a beautiful parkland garden, with lakes, woodland and a wonderful collection of trees and plants. The bird life is also well worth seeing.

Wakehurst Place

Wakehurst Place is set in mid-Sussex. It's part of Kew Gardens and is homeof the Millennium Seed bank project. Beautifully landscaped, it offers an abundance of gardens, woodlands and wetland features.

Flying Machines

We seem to be on the flight path for light aircraft, so occasionally instead of the ubiquitous gulls I end up photographing planes.
Gulls Ahoy!

Sea Gulls are endemic in my part of the world. The dominant type in the Herring Gull, which is a speckled brown as a juvenile and the classic grey and white (with black/white tail) as an adult. You often get adolescents (2-3 years) showing markings in transition.

An archive of previous 'Fox of the Day' from my website. All pictures were originally published on my main site in April 2006. In the early part of the month we had relatively few sightings and so I used a range of photos from last year. By the middle of the month, the vixen (who had just given birth) re-emerged and then finally the cubs appeared.

Through the Window

I took this series of shots over a 10 minute period. They were all taken through the back window of our house. The first shot shows the view we get from the window. I used the zoom for most of the rest. The pictures are untouched, but reduced in size for the web

In the middle of the month, when foxes go to earth and the new cubs are born, we had relatively few sightings and so I used a range of photos from last year. By the end of the month the dog fox was visiting again, but less frequently. There are a number of photos of him in the archive.
