Shoreham Airshow crash

Last month I made a blog entry about Spitfires and Hurricanes over our garden. It turned out that the flight was part of the preparation for the Shoreham Airshow which takes place this weekend. I was shocked to read on the news earlier today that one of the Hurricanes in the show had crashed during this afternoon's display. The pilot didn't survive.

My thoughts are with the family and friends of the pilot.

Hey words i was there today, it was very sad to hear this news :frown: I was at LHR yesterday, i did plan to go to shoreham yesterday but the trains were not running well today so changed dates, iam glad i did though because i wouldnt have liked to see it crash.

Such a scary tragic thing to happen so close to home!

Hi Mark, I thought of you yesterday (wasn't sure which day you were planning to go). It must have been awful to witness, so good call on the transport decision.

I saw some of the aircraft flying out mid/late afternoon from our garden. Most were fairly distant (and it was misty so most of my photos are rubbish), but we got a great fly past by one of the spitfires. I'll post it later. Came right over us again (different one from last time). I think I saw a B52 and some other US planes, as well as distant views of the other spitfires and hurricanes.

Aww thanks for thinking of me:) I was on a very overcrowded tube train approaching Victoria Station at the time of the crash.

I have had a few emails from MSN friends asking if i was ok, very nice of them too.

Although being on a tube train croweded with sweaty people compared to witnessing an airshow crash, iam sure you know which one i would have preferred!

I can get very emotional, if i did see it i would have gone home in floods of tears!

I have taken so many pics yesterday at LHR and today at Shoreham, 200 from each visit lol:P I best get sorting them out, will look forward to your pics too, is Shoreham quite close to you? The hills to the northeast look simular to the terrain in your pics, i could have come round for a cup of tea lol:P

Mark , that's a fair few photos to sort through :faint: We're about half an hour from Shoreham. Similar sort of hills though. I'm sure a lot of the air traffic we get (light aircraft) comes from there.

Just a brief update. I've been looking on the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight site, and apparently the Hurricane that came down isn't one of theirs. The one I photographed in August was part of the BBMF, so the aircraft here isn't the plane that crashed.

I've put some more photos from today in the Flying Machines album.
