Tales of a South Downs fox... and other ramblings

More rain, no badger, but two foxes

The title more or less sums up today. Plenty of rain, and not much else. It eased off early evening, and I did spend a short time outside in the vain hope that the badger would return. It didn't, but the foxes did.
The bold vixen

The old dog fox

He is still by the far the more dominant of the pair, happily pushing her out of the way in typical fox fashion (i.e. with his rear end, behaviour I've only previously seen among fox cubs). Here's the two of them together.

Camera note: all shots taken with the EF70-300mm 4.5-5.6 DO IS lens.

Lois, thanks. I was happy withthat last shot. It's not always as easy to get them both in shot at the same time.

Adele, thanks. It can get quite complicated working out the hierarchy at times, but these two seem to have it sorted.

Cynthia, I have a sneaking suspicion the badger is more regular than I realize, just very good at not coming in when I'm about. No such problem with the foxes.

So, the badgers and the foxes live harmoniously?

Cynthia. generally foxes and badgers will work around each other. Both can be aggressive if there are young about, but mostly they avoid fighting.

Mark, the weekend weather should be ok. It would be nice to see the badger again. We're obviously on one of its routes as it seemed to know exactly where to find the hole in the hedge when it disappeared. I'll get my chance one day!

Oh! This is great. Then, I hope the badgers come around more often also. smile
