Kestrels of Sheepcote

,

Despite the gloom (we were, and still are, shrouded in mist for most of the day) I stopped off at Sheepcote Valley.

There weren't many kestrels about, but one is enough. This male was out hunting crickets (a main secondary diet at this time of the year).

I tracked him to his landing site...

Snack over, he took to the air again to hunt for more morsels....

Love the haybales! And the kestrel of course. It's surprising how much of their diet is made up of invertebrates. As a chil, I always assumed they were hunting for mice when I used to watch them hovering over the motorway verges.

Darko, it was quite a large cricket, but not as large as this one. whistle

Adele, the hay bales always add something to the fields at this time of year. It reminds me that they are working spaces, but also very traditional and timeless.
