A Mixed Bag

Today was bright, but cold; which is fine. At least there was no rain. It was bright enough for this very pretty foal to be up early this morning.
At the other end of the scale (size-wise) I ran across multiple clouds of gnats. I've given up the thankless task of trying to photograph individual gnats, but if you're at a loose end you could try counting this little lot.
The one unusual capture (not that the subject is particularly rare, just one I don't see too often), is this shelduck. It was one of a pair that flew over.
Finally, with all those insects about it's little wonder that the swifts are becoming increasingly active. This is one of the better shots I managed.
Camera note: all shots taken with the Canon 7D and EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens.

The summer food supply for the swifts is doing well.
