Tales of a South Downs fox... and other ramblings

Cormorant

, , , ,

It seems an age since I've been down to Rottingdean. Little changes there. Ever. The tide was in, and it wasn't a surprise that the seas were rough.

The rock pipits were flitting along the edge of the shore, jackdaws and pigeons flocking among the rocks, and the occasional fulmar flew overhead. Plus gulls. Always gulls. The best sighting though was a cormorant. Usually they stay well out over the sea. Nice to watch as they glide past between the Marina to the west and the vantage point they have just beyond Saltdean to the east of Rottingdean, but generally not worth photographing. Today, one came in over the cliffs and close enough for a few shots. And yes, those skies are indeed blue!

And so to tonight's foxes. Just one shot for now, but it does have two foxes in it.

Cormorants always look like they just stepped out of the Cretaceous.

dW, they are very strange looking creatures, and the only bird I've ever seen to snap a branch while perching on it!

I rarely see them flying; usually it is either when they dive for fish or dry feathers while standing on the rock bigsmile

Darko, the best shots are when they hang themselves out to dry.

Mick, I've just read a report saying that it was the wettest June for about 150 years, and the dullest (no sun) for around 100 years. Ugh!

Adele, you can't beat rough seas for the sheer sense of power.

Darko, it's just the way they put their wings out like they're draped over a 'coat hanger'
