Tales of a South Downs fox... and other ramblings

The Foxes Return

,

Last night I did something I haven't done in the 7 or so years I've been posting a 'fox of the day'. I posted a picture of the two badgers (as a special guest appearance).

It seems the foxes were none too pleased (it's always been obvious to me that they have the internet and monitor the blog and website). Within about half an hour posting that, they sent Shy Boy round to make their displeasure known. "It's meant to be a fox of the day, and badgers have no place there," seemed to be the message.

Not that he was too exercised by it, but he did make it plain that he found badgers 'boring'.

This evening, Shutterbug came round as well, just to emphasize that this is a fox garden, not a badger patch.

He seems to be carrying a small wound on his head. Impossible to be sure whether he's snagged it on something, been in a fight or (quite possible) dislodged a tick. It didn't apepar to be worrying him though, and it looks clean.

All the garden activity has left precious little space for any other wildlife, but I did want to include this shot of a heron, simply because you don't often see them like this.

No sighting of badgers tonight (so far). Maybe the foxes are serious about their intention to reclaim the territory. We'll see! bigsmile

Not often? I should say not! I've NEVER seen a heron do that, and I've lived shoulder-to-wing with them at times.
Shutterbug obviously misread "fox" and got "box". That's a boxing cut over the eye. OK, OK, I'm going to my room.

Me too, I don't remember ever seeing heron "floating" on the water like that left
Foxes are not happy for badgers eating all the food irked

dW, I've been checking out heron behaviour. It seems that your blue herons don't swim, but our greys do occasionally. Whether this one is or not, I'm not sure. It may just have been able to reach the bottom of the pond. It was a first for me too!

Darko, it does look strange seeing it like that. I'm in two minds as to whether it was really swimming. The foxes are doing ok on finding edible things in the garden wink

The heron looks slightly less sinister than usual right

I'm sure the foxes have wifi. You remember my blogging fox? wink
