BIRD TRAPPING ON THE RISE IN CYPRUS...2,8 MILLION BIRDS KILLED...

The late monitoring results In CYPRUS show that bird trapping with mist nets and limesticks continues to rise,threatening many migrants traveling through the Eastern Mediterranean Islands. Bird Cyprus has carried out monitoring of Illegal trapping ,and there discovered that 2,8 million birds have been victims of this practice during the year.It Is the highest number of cases reported. This dramatic figure highlights the Increasing trend In Bird trapping In CYPRUS. Here we see,that still trapping of birds Is a big problem. Still more than one group are standing by,and do try to free the birds from the nets ore limesticks,and still the trapping Is going up In numbers. If there Is a demand for birds to sell In resto-and bars there will be a trapping of birds In Cyprus, take a more deep control to the demand and there will be hope to end this trapping.

Considering the economic situation in Europe, I wouldn't be too surprised if people started eating whatever wild fauna and flora they can get their hands on!

I suppose the peasants of Cyprus must be very poor,as well as ill-informed.There probably isn't any form of protection for wild birds or animals for that matter.It's a difficult problem.I know that those practices used to be the norm when I lived in Mallorca in 1975-85 but since the general population are much richer the practice has dwindled quite a lot although I know the restaurants continue to offer tordos (thrush) on the menu.Yes I know it's horrible and a crime,but it's terribly difficult to curb these practices when there's a demand and the country people are poorly educated......P.S.I'm grateful for your appreciation of my photography

in the south / west of France , ortolans and others birds are always eaten ,despite ban

it's the tradition !
if you are hungry you don't eat small birds but bigs

It's an appalling problem and of course it's directly affecting the UK too, since some of our birds have to fly over this region for their migration. It's just wrong

If they really like to eat the flesh of birds, they better make a bird farm, so that there are birds in the wild is not endangered.
