THE LARUS MICHAHLLIS

In recent decades, the yellow-legged gull has become a problem species,In the Mediterranean region.
The European Uni takes steps to address the problem at the base by making sure that fich waste also dumps are less accessible to the gulls.

Young Yellow Gulls feed primarily on invertebrates but a study in Spain there was found that household waste for adult birds the main of there food was.
Op de Medes also the Columbretes Islands in the Ebro Delta and the island Mazarrot where the investigation took place on originated balls from the gulls.

A overpopulation of these species occur in these areas even the western part of the Mediterranean Is affected by this problem.
Solving this problem also has its downside, and this is that the Gulls will look for other sources, also this will be at the expense of other species.

It Is already banned in many countries to feed the Gulls, Is this a path to the solution? This I doubt,

Your concern is genuine Erwin. We should be hopeful, some system would evolve where Gulls will get their food and European Union gets what they want as well. You are a wishful birds man, your thoughts are positive, things will happen your way!
Have a wonderful weekend Erwin!

for the "European Herring Gull" , in northern France (Dieppe) they try to use hawks, Osprey, Harris's Hawk, to frighten them, and sterilizes the eggs

A lot of these problems are complex and people get impatient for "magic bullet" solutions. Solving issues does take time.

rania.h.qasemraniakasim Monday, October 4, 2010 8:45:19 AM

i'm completely agree with the solution that Catse mentioned
nature can solve its own problem

catseopcat Monday, October 4, 2010 8:50:20 AM

if we do not find a solution the authorities could exterminate them , to not displease their constituents

catseopcat Monday, October 4, 2010 1:38:17 PM

yes they cost ! big problem
I know it is not a solution !

NitroNitroH Monday, October 4, 2010 5:07:52 PM

Here by us the seagulls are protected along with the other coastal birds. I also often see them ganging up on the hawks so that would not be a solution here if we should ever have that problem.

Great post Erwin, I always enjoy them.
Have a good one.bigsmile

Correct to me pls ... Do not give food to the gulls to avoid the overpopulation. I wish you a good day

The researchers estimate that the seagulls eating microbes digest the scraps from landfills where visitors haunt. Scientists have found similar resistant bacteria in the body and other animals eat from the trash, such as wolves and foxes. What do you recommend? To sweep away all these animals?? sad

Elina Zaproudielzaserr Friday, October 8, 2010 3:36:24 PM

Burning waste, problem will create by toxic gases in the atmosphere... The best solution is to cover the landfills at regular intervals and move them to another place which solution costs of course.. smile

Elina Zaproudielzaserr Friday, October 8, 2010 6:56:03 PM

That sounds right but where are there such burning stations? Definitely not exist in my country .. However thanks for the info... Erwin smile

ERWINWulpen Friday, October 19, 2012 7:30:44 PM

Hi Helen, all seabirds are protected, but it signified not all countries as a result of.... as long there are open garbage dumping, the gulls an other species will feeding on these sites, with the result that around the food sources a overpopulation occurs, and this explains the great ERROR... Helen tank you for you interest, comment also your visit, have a beautiful day
