73 - "Ah! But trees are the real technology". -Eunuch

After six hours of steady climbing on the narrow path of the Semien Mountains, the eunuch reached the highest point of Ras Dejan. He turned to find Dujon who was not too far behind. Nightfall in the mountains was a blueish black and silent. This silence was strange for a densely forested mountain because not even the night creatures could be heard. Several times during the journey Dujon had to tap at the short line connecting the two of them. Three times he called out to the Eunuch who was walking light footed, to be sure that he hadn't lost him. Though his eyes had gotten used to the darkness, there was no distinction of shapes that he could make out. This kind of blacknesss was consistent and without void. It was as if his eyes were closed. But closed eyes awakened other senses. So it was not the same feeling looking into this darkness.

"We are here". The words of the eunuch embraced Dujon's ears like a sweet aria and he felt relief. He depressed a button on his watch and lit up its face. In the deep darkness the little light shot out a blinding stab to his eyes. It was a few minutes after four in the morning. He was exhausted and hungry but dare not show his weakness to this tiny dwarf of a man who didn't seem any more tired than when they set off six hours ago.

He flashed his little watch light on the eunuch and saw him pull out some kind of a torch. The little man held it up and a glowing light started uncovering the sheet of darkness surrounding them. The powerful light penetrated about 50 yards in circumference and for the first time Dujon could see where he was.

"Now that's a light", said the Eunuch.

"You had all the while?" the Eunuch didn't answer but flashed a mischievous grin.

Dujon looked around puzzled and took a moment to catch his breath. Then he looked at the eunuch blankly. "I thought you said we were here."

"We are".

"But... there is nothing here but trees".

"Ah! But trees are the real technology".

72- "That thing that rolled up on me was from another world"- Zephar

"I had to take quick action."

"He's clean Khyan", confirmed Zephar

"And how would you know that?"

"We used Cilog to suspend our powers."

"You did what? Access to Cilog must be a joint action! I should have been informed!

"There was a security breach and that's the procedure for such a matter. Let me remind you that I am the commander of this outfit and I have the right to conduct this investigation."

"And my job is to ensure that we all keep our heads together and not create divisions".

"Security is first and foremost and that's that".

"Look", Zephar broke in. "Let's not argue about this. I was attacked and we need to know who was behind this."

"It's not good. An attack on us means that the higher forces have given their approval", said Khyan.

"How could that be? We have a charter giving us the privilege to defeat this kind of evil", said Feizu.

"That charter is the talent which you've been given. That's it. As it is, we are not totally immune from attacks", answered Khyan.

"So we're nothing special", said Lobo.

Ambrose smirked. "You guessed it".

"We're not gods Lobo. Our powers are limited".

"Sounds like we're being played by the heights".

"Only the ancients would know".

"Would DFF have technology that we don't know of to produce such a demon like machine?"

"That thing that rolled up on me didn't feel like a machine and no human technology could have produced that. It was from another world".

"There's something else. That same strain of antimatter that was tested in the desert, was used a couple of minutes ago. Cilog just confirmed an explosion in Nairobi bearing similar fallout effects, 10000 missing, presumed dead".

"What the..! No bodies?" exclaimed Lobo.

"None".

"How the hell did we miss that?" asked Feizu. Ambrose shook his head in anguish.

"DFF. They're preparing for a big attack", said Khyan.

"There might be a connection between the antimatter test, the Nairobi incident and Zephar's attack".

71 - "there's a traitor in our midst!" - Ambrose

Dujon didn't feel well and was hoping that the shot of brandy would set him straight. From what he knew of the blast he could tell that it was set at a precise perimeter just barely missing Thomas, Kim and himself. Since the authorities did not know yet what kind of explosive it was, he could not rule out the possibility of it being some kind of high tech containment biological weapon designed to disintegrate atoms on contact.

"Attention passengers. This is the first call for flight 119 Nairobi Airlines bound for Addis Ababa" rattled a speaker above Dujon's head. His ears pricked up on hearing the announcement and he slowly lifted himself trying not to awaken the emerging headache throbbing a rhythm as he moved. Dujon wished he could have flown with Tim his private pilot. In the call he received just after the blast, the caller had ordered him to abandon Tim for this trip. Disillusioned from his stay in Kenya, Dujon joined the line of passengers and stood still waiting for it to board the airplane.

"There's a traitor in our midst!" Ambrose let the words hang in silence as his eyes shifted on all in attendance allowing the gravity of his accusation to seep in. It was not often that the Sons & Daughters (SD) met in person. The five in attendance eyed each other and returned their gaze to Ambrose.

"Earlier today Zefon was attacked by a demon who knew her exact location. No one could have known this but one of us. I have conducted a search of your minds but have found nothing suspicious".

"And yours Ambrose?" asked Khyan, looking around to the others as if for support. "You know that is a violation of our agreement."

70-

Kimi lumbered back to the parking lot after dropping Dujon off at the airport. Still dazed from the big bang yesterday, she was puzzled as to what to make of Dujon's visit. He had come and gone as fast as the twinkling of hope for the average Kenyan. A call he had received just after the blast had changed his demeanour. She watched him closely as he rushed her off to the airport, apologising that under no circumstances must he miss his flight. Kimi couldn't guess what he had achieved in Nairobi but she was happy to be alive and relieved of the pressure of playing host driver. She didn't feel well but was anxious to return to her normal routine.

Dujon sat in the departure lounge at Nairobi airport waiting to board his flight when he saw familiar images appear on a big screen TV hoisted on the wall of one of the bars.

"Excuse me could you turn that up please?" he said to the bar girl.

'In Vanna, downtown Nairobi today, 10000 people, most of whom were women and children have disappeared from what appears to have been a bomb blast. Presumably killed, authorities say they are still searching for the remains and that no one has yet claimed responsibility for the blast. Our reporter Terry Mhundi is at the scene and has more. "Terry, what more do we know of this explosion?"

"The local authorities say it's the first they've seen of this kind of explosion. I'm standing just about 20 feet away from what was a dilapitated part of the city, smack in the middle of Nairobi's financial center. Most of the people who squatted here were in trouble with the law and within the past six months were given several violation orders to vacate the premises to make way for construction. Witnesses and family members say at least 10000 people had lived here in make shift houses and tents surrounded by old tires and rubble. The police are now searching through what is left in the area and have so far not been able to recover any bodies. The explosion has left nothing behind except for some kind of white powder. Forensics have now joined the search to unravel the mystery of this tragedy. What happened to the 10000 people who squatted here? Back to you Jen".

69- The mother of all BANGS!!

The mother of all 'BANGS' blinded all who saw it and ended existence of all who was within its reach. Dujon, Kimi and Thomas barely escaped the stretch of the blast and were tossed into the air and thrown forward landing on beds of lettuce and cabbage. Dujon was the first to recover and raised his dirt covered head. He tried to speak but his words were jamed with the soil of Kenya.

Thomas was lucky to have landed on his feet and so he bounced from the break of his knees and moved forward from the momentum. He looked back while running forward and his eyes met Dujon's - bright blue and illuminating from the sorrounding black soil on his face. The seconds slowed and for the moment it seemed that their motion was devoid of gravity. They exchanged looks of horror and understood each other.

The ghetto had flattened into a white powder and the four teenagers who had escorted then through the slum had disappeared on the mound, their remains blowing in the wind.

Thomas was able to control his momentum forward and stopped himself. Dujon grabbed Kimi's hand on his way up off the ground and ran forward pulling her semi-conscious body.

The young boys who were playing marbles next to them didn't stop fleeing across the field. Dujon looked ahead for a split second and saw their tiny bodies leap over the sloped valley to disappear over the mountained horizon into safety.

68- "Theirs will come, if not for them soon, then for their children later." - Thomas

Their heads were down in deep discussion on the fate of Africa. The three came to a stop and stood looking at the valley below. Their escorts, the four youths carrying rifles, stood on the mound about fifty yards away watching them closely.

"We need to stop this world, all of us. It's clear that there are millions more of us who are always broke and barely making it than them, the greedy few, fat from the spoils of our soil. How'bout we step back and take a good look at this. The truth is, the ones responsible for this chaos and that have the power to make things right don't give a shit as long as that shit stays over there away from their little personal worlds," said Thomas. "But they're dead wrong, because everything that happens in this world affects all of us in some way or the other."

"They may try with all they got but the truth is no one is safe until the policies of super nations reflect cohesive responsibility and generousity. No one is safe until there is adequate justice in national and international law, everyone abides by it and loopholes facilitated by the wealthy are eradicated. No one is safe until there is equal regard of all humans, irrespective of wealth and cultural difference.

"Some may argue that the rich and the intelligent have a right to more because they are smarter or more talented. Well, that's fine, as long as each man and woman is lifted to his or her highest level of moral respect, without jealousy, without fear and without hubris. No one is safe until cultural differences are left intact and not attacked, allowed to transcend and not manipulated to create barriers. Until everyone has food, shelter and work and is treated with reasonable respect, the wealthy can tremble. For theirs will come, if not for them soon, then for their children later. It will come. Surely it will."

No sooner had Thomas paused, a massive bang ripped through the heavens shaking the ground beneath them.

67 - What the #@$*!!! - UPN Chairman.

At the meeting of the United People's Nations in China, (UPN), the chairman unfolded the piece of paper slipped to him by his aid and read its contents. At the same time a delegate of the Russian federation stood up to make a speech.

The piece of paper had only nine kanji characters written on it. The chairman stared at its contents dumbfounded. After reading it three times to make sure his mind was not playing tricks on him, his thoughts started racing. His foreign minister who sat next to him wondered what it was that took the chairman's attention away from the meeting. Although his curiosity was overwhelming, he continued looking straight ahead so as not to distract the other delegates at the meeting.

The chairman finally looked up. The foreign minister kept his head straight but looked at the chairman from the corner of his eyes. He saw the leader of the UPN staring blankly and knew that something was wrong. The chairman said something to his foreign minister, got up from his seat and started walking towards the exit. It was rare for the host of the nations conference to exit without an announcement. Ruffling sounds emerged from the seats of delegates as they raised their heads discreetly. It could only be an emergency, everyone thought. The minute the chairman disappeared between the closing doors of the exit, the Russian delegate making his speech was interrupted by his aid who handed him a note.

66 "Make the govecorporegion proud" - The Prez.

"Now, listen up! We all have our assignments. You know what's going down and so do many of our ordinary citizens out there. But the rally for strong opposition and protest is weak and there is really no threat at all. On the contrary. Every passing hour is a claim to victory and I can't help but wallow in the genious of the architects of our soon to be world government. It's inevitable!!! No human can stop it. It's necessary and close to grip.

Despite my actions here today, God bless old Tommy. He had mentalitis. we all know that as the president of the democratic free world, I have no real power. The real power need I remind you imbecilic lapsing verminous leaders of the human race, lies in the scrotum of corporate. That quintessential origin of entrepreneurship. The progidy of brilliance. In marriage to our most glorious creation - RELIGION, we have been triamphant throughout the century. I know my job gentlemen and I acted appropriately. Tommy went out because he defied. How about you?

We are on an irreversible course to controlling world population, to controlling the movements, actions, why even the thoughts of our subjects. The new world order is in progress and now we are at our most vigilant phase. Our strategies at promoting the separation of ethnic groups, having them cleanse one another has been absolutely marvelous. Hape Hape Hooray!!! Good job gentlemen. The outbreak of pandemics I must admit are really cool. They wipe out millions within a short period of time. But we need to have tighter security and control over the antidotes. What's the point in manufacturing a killer and our enemies can get a hold of the antidote. Huh?!F!@3$*."

The commander eyed each one of his men suspiciously and continued. "The nuclear bomb is alright. See how peaceful and corporative the Japanese have become? But I think it's a bit too lethal. It poisons the air, kills the soil, it's just too messy. Now I like this grade of antimatter we saw here today. It's right on the money. It's the shit. Deadly but clean, accurate and leaves no trace. This weapon will advance our fight and seal our superiority once and for all. Make the govecorporegion proud. That's government, corporation and religion for those of you still sleeping like Tommy. Better WAKE UP!! Let's do the right thing."

65 - "Sometimes, to get what you want, you have to kill!" - The Prez.

General Tommy wriggled out his last breath as he landed on the wooden deck with a loud thud. The men looked away in horror and just stood still.

"We're not responsible for the mess this world is in gentlemen. We're just here trying to survive. Trying to do the best that we can with the little that we have in this craziness. This is no time for skepticism. We are marching on. Technology is changing the way we do many things but god damn it we'll be damned if we lose our power. The only way real change can come about is if the entire world is obliterated and all of its inhabitants wiped out. Whoever survives has a shot at a new beginning, a new dominion. But here and now, in this time, we need to do this to keep the power.

In due time our people will applaud our foresight. Building that superior race is our biggest challenge. We have a lot of work to do. As you just witnessed, within our own ranks there are some who resist the power. We are the chosen. It's not about color or ethnicity. The power to lead, control and dictate the future is with us. An interlectually, economically and spiritually superior race is what we're about here. Who will guide the sheep if we don't?

How the hell do you think we came this far? by being docile hosts like our African bafoons were to their enemies. If there is one thing we've understood in building this great nation is that to get what you want sometimes you got to kill. Fear will get you results in a hurry. For goodness sake, we are the greatest power on earth. We've killed millions and stolen much wealth to have the abundance that we have today unmatched by any other country. We understand economics because we invented it". The President bursted out laughing until tears run down his cheeks.

Controlling his gasps, he continued. "It's a fierce battle gentlemen and only the meanest will see it through."

64 "I need at least 5 strong heavy wars just to level off the economy" -The Prez.

"It's the lifeblood of our economy, our very survival. Could any of you imagine our world without war? The devastation, collapsing businesses, millions out of work." exclaimed the president.

"But sir, we're actively engaged in at least three heavy confrontations around the world and our economy is still in tatters," said general Tommy.

"Three wars are not enough Tommy. We need at least five heavy wars just to level off inflation. I need three more wars Tommy. It's become part of our nature. To sustain our dominant position we must make sacrifices. A few will die in these other countries but its a necessary good. Good for the survival of our people and the survival of our beliefs. It's always been that way and that's just how it is."

General Tommy turned to the president in his usual nonchalant way. A cloud of smoke blew out of his nostrils. "Chief, I am afraid we have created a monster. If there is an alternative economic system that we can take on to reduce this conflict and bloodshed we consistently impose on the rest of the world, I doubt that we can find it with our fists clenched."

"So what are you saying?" asked the president.

"I'm saying that this amazing bomb will only drive us into more chaos and instability."

"Do you believe in miracles general?" All the men turned to look at the commander in chief as they picked up a slight change in his tone."

"Yes, as a matter of fact I do."

"Good, because only a miracle can stop this madness."
General Tommy slowly withdrew the cigar from his trembling lips. He did not know that side of the president. He felt that something was wrong and fell into a stutter trying to explain what he had meant.

With the other men looking on, the commander nodded to one of his bulky body guards who whipped out something that looked like a wirey string from his side pocket. In a swift motion the bulky guard wraped the wire around general Tommy's neck and pulled effortlessly looking upwards and breathing heavily as if on the verge of an ejaculation.
