Jazz Club

jazz, originalmente cargada por Yorch Arturo.

Queretaro's best Jazz club, the "Encrucijada Jazz" is a realy neat place, great musicians, incredible price, amazing ambient, the location, in the street where the acueduct (symbol of the city) is located, and near other nightclubs and bars.

The only "but" of the place is, people, half of the people or more is too noisy, they talk and talk don't leting you listen the music as you want.

Still a great place, the other jazz places I know of Queretaro are more amateur and small cafés.

Polution

contaminación, originalmente cargada por Yorch Arturo.

This is a factory in front of my work place, they dehidrates vegetables, so they work with food, and they polute like crazy, they are "Deshidratadora La Cascada"

The worst part of that is that the smoke goes directly to my office, exactly to my window and door, so we are breading this every friday, and when we have to leave the office, we ended all cover in smoke, smelling like it and just like we just clean a chimney.

I hope someone do something about it soon, because it also gave me headaches.

Fantasy mobile

,

I love mobile phones, too bad I'm not rich to buy them all...

I remember the Sony Ericsson P800 the first good looking (at the time) touch screen phone, very expensive, but it was nice, I wanted one, but couldn't afford it.

The first UIQ and only I could bought I sell my old phone plus another one I got for free from the phone company, because of my plan, with that money plus some of my savings and the sale of the memory cards for the other phones I could afford the Sony Ericsson W960, which is great, but why all the new UIQ phones go backwards to have "keyboards" they where innovative with P800, so when everybody is looking for a touchscreen only phone they leave that trend.

I love my phone it does great things, but an only touch scree w960 would be so perfect, so imagine a 240x480 W960 from Sony Ericsson, all the other stuff is great.

If some person from Sony Ericsson read this, could you do one just for me for free!!

Queretaro rated in tourism

, , ,

The National Geographic Traveler Magazine has a rating for all touristic places and Queretaro was ranked as 13th in the world, 2nd in latinamerica and 1st in Mexico.

This rating is not based in the number of visitor per year, but instead for what the place has to offer and the quality of everything.

You can check the rating in: traveler.nationalgeographic.com

Just like it was

The autumn or fall arrived and fells like it should, at night we have temperatures of 0°C to 6°C and on day from 6°C to 18°C

Some complain for cold but it was like this since ever but for the last 5 years the winter and fall had been very warm. Still the sun shines every day and burning, the air is cold though.

Moto Rokr E8

, ,

I love mobile phones, because those are the new tech, gps, mp3, camera, communication, and more in one small device...

Motorola answer to Apple's iPhone, Sony Ericsson Walkman and Nokia XpressMusic, is the Rokr line, which in short, sucks so much is amazing, and the flagship of the line the E8 is so ugly, it is incredible that some designer was involved, it looks like the phones in the mid 90's it is even that big, and it is not a smartphone (those are big) the only "cool" thing is the morphing keypad, but the rest is so ugly is not worth the materials it is made, the worst part is that Motorola is advertising that product as a good choice, when it is not a choice at all.

Poor Motorola, they invented the mobile phones, but sucked in the business, the only nice phone they ever released was the Razr in 2003, and they have no progress from there, plus battery life still is the worst and the user interface is so bad it is almost unusable.

And the company executives wonder why they are so bad in sales and profit, spending that amount of money in advertising and promoting an ugly phone, when all the other companies had better alternatives for less money.

Villahermosa

Villahermosa Tabasco 2008 (66), originalmente cargada por Yorch Arturo.

Last week I went to Villahermosa, in the state of Tabasco, this was because of work, but I take the chance to go to the city downtown and the park "La Venta" which is a Zoo and a museum.

The city is lovely, mid size city, surrounded by rivers and jungle it is a very hot and humid place, it was like 30°C and according to locals it was cool.

The rivers are great, they should take more advantage of them, for tourism and recreation, the museum is great, I had the chance to see the Olmec head, something we see in school since... always in every grade, they where the very first civilized culture in Mexico, the fathers of all others.

Veracruz

, , , ...

Veracruz 2008 Nov (76), originalmente cargada por Yorch Arturo.

For work reasons I went to the city and port of Veracruz, it is, in my humble opinion, the best beach city in Mexico, is not touristic, which in Mexico means it is a real city, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco, any other beach town you think of is like Disneyland, fake, great but fake, why, well everything is about the tourist, the mexican food is so fake in those places, over mexicanized, while this city is large, like a million people, and the economy is diversify, industry, port, tourism, commerce, petroleum (pemex) and other stuff too.

I stay in the metro area of Boca del Rio, 10km from the downtown, I walk that one day thinking it was a shorter distance.

I truly say that of the beach towns and cities this is the only one I could live, because it is a real city, with all the things yo need of a city, and an affordable price (Cancun, Pto Vallarta and others are so overprice)

Visit it if yo can, it is a good place to be.

Death in fashion

, ,

A fashion show in Queretaro was organised with the topic "Death" an always hot topic in mexican culture.

Death brides, grooms, "catrinas" and more.

The barrier of language

,

Many have experienced the "lost" feeling when you don't speak the local language... And I bet some feel the same sometimes with the same language.

I'm a spanish native speaker, so many can assume that every person that speaks in spanish can understand me and me understand them.

Not always, not 100%... A few years ago I called Dell to buy an affordable computer, the phone number was an 800 number in the USA and a nice guy answered my call, the problem was that he was cuban, puerto rican or dominican, and I couldn't understand everything, because we speak very different, and had some idioms I couldn't get, it was a problem for both of us, and he was getting angry because I was "sorry, could you repeat that" all the time. I was tempted to ask for another person maybe a mexican and that way maybe we could understand each other.

The problem here was the accent, and the fact that he lives in the USA so his main language is not spanish.

Now in the same country I have the problem, in mexico, when in Monterrey visiting my cousin we went out with her friends, and like half of the conversation I felt lost, for the accent.

Another time was in the USA, we forgot the camera in the hotel, and call them, the concierge was nice but didn't speak spanish, so when I started to tell him my adress he decided it was easier to give it to someone that speaks spanish, since I was spelling the entire adress. The problem with the spanish speaker guy was that he didn't understand my pronunciation and was writing all wrong, he ended up passing the call back to the concierge.

How the same language can be so different from city to city, from cultural and tradition and the mix of so many variants.

That is why the spanish language academies of the world are working to create the dictionary and grammar rules.
