Queretaro's downtown is one of the most active in Mexico, in Mexico dowtowns are for work and goverment issues only, and people that goes to spend time in a downtown usually goes to church, well that is not the case in Queretaro, were downtown is very active full of entertaining options.
In the downtown (historic distric mainly) you will find restaurants from all styles, the very mexican traditional, mexican exclusive, international, italian (we love italian), salads, french, cajun, indian, japanese, and so on. Also there are a lot of night time places, bars, lounge places, nightclubs, band stand, comedy clubs, theaters, and there are shows on the public plazas and gardens, also art galeries, and museums.
The point of meeting is the main plaza, the "Jardin de los Perritos" (little dogs garden) officialy named "Plaza de Armas" were the state goverment is located, from here you can walk to 5 de mayo (bar street and some theater), Libertad st (art galleries and restaurants), stay on the plaza (café and restaurants), 16 de septiembre (restaurants, theater, bars, ice cream and stores) and near that is Independencia St. where there are also theater and restaurants.
From thursday to sunday the historic district is a traffic jam, that is why I always parked near it and walk, it is faster, by the way the jam is normal in the historic district (small streets from the 1600's to the 1800's where horses and foot where the main transportation system)
This is how it looks (the streets full of cars looking for a space to park), and tons of walking pedestrians, it can take you even two hours to park the car, so be like me and park in the first space and walk.
