My city's birthday is on july 25th, the festivities started on july 20th. 476 years ago the city was founded.
When in 1614 New Amsterdam (New York city) have the first pilgrims, dutch. Santiago de Queretaro was a big city, the third of the New Spain and the new university was being built (Colegio de San Ignacio) and started the first class of 1625.
Today it is my brithday, I'm now 25 years old... back in 1982 in a wednesday my mom was eight months pregnat, and she fell in the street, as a consecuence I was born in a ER. I have a theory that my parents whant to save money in birthday parties and if I was born the very next day than my brother, they could made a single party for both of us... (just kidding, it wasn't planned my mom did fell)
So I'm having a surprise party, but my friends informed me, in order to make sure I wasn't having something planned, it is going to be in an "Antro" (nighclub) in the Nighlife district.
Finally I'm going to be there, is a place I don't know.
So tomorrow I'll tell you how it was.
As a joke I did this invitation... just to make fun.
Today is my Big Brother (not related to 1984) Bday, he is 3 years and one day older than me, he wsa born on February 7th 1979 (X gen) and I was born on February 8th 1982 (Y gen), three years and one day!
He is also taller than me, I'm 1.90m (6 ft 3 in) while my brother is 1.97m (6 ft 5.5in). I'm the short guy in the family, since my father is taller than me too.
Well my brother was celebrating his 28 bday, so HAPPY BDAY JP!!
When in college I meet some international students and create good friends, but all of them were amazed about mexican birthdays, so I'm going to tell you how we celebrate them.
The parties can be surprise, but it is not cutom to do it that way.
We have many of the same stuff like any other place on earth, balloons, soda, candy, food and cake. The different stuff are the Piñata, you probably know it from cartoons and tv, and in some places in the world is an imported tradition.
The really different stuff is that the birthday boy suffers... yes, it is a tradition to throw him or her to a pool foutain or in case of not having one, to throw some balloons filled with water.
We sang the birthday song "Las Mañanitas" and after blowing the candle we ask for a bite, in which the birthday boy have to bite the cake directly or in case the cake looks really tasty, we cut a slice and make him bite it, but he will be "splated" with the cake, we put cake all over his face, and nose, a good birthday bite have to end with half of the cake in the birthday boy face. (Here is when all international students were amazed)
Two of my friends, one a college and high school friend, and the other my catholic catecism friend became boyfriends, that happend like 6 months ago, suddenly my differt types of friend where in a crossover... Well she had her birthday and my friend organize a "serenata" with mariachis, mariachis are very expensive, no matter how bad are they, this is the first serenade with friend and mariachi I've been, since we all were hunger-students (estudihambres), this is a new good experience, and I made a video of it...
Yes, is thursday and we all (friends) are still celebrating Julio's bday...
Today it was Bowling (remember I talked about me bowling) well today was my day, I bowl really good and even I teach a very good friend of mine to do it as well (Karen).
After that a nice good friend dinner in a good Taco restaurant, the best (for me at least) in Querétaro "Tacos El Pata"
While visiting Querétaro don't forget to pass there and order any kind of delicious taco.
Here are some pictures...
The first time Karen is in a bowling alley...
The Bday boy with an small cake in the tacos place...
My friend Chantal she always take out her tongue for photos...
Yesterday we (friends and me) planned to spend the morning-afternoon in a near twon named Tequisquiapan visiting the vineyards (Querétaro is a good wine producer in Mexico), but everythig collapse since the bday boy have to work cause something happend in the factory...
So we have to stick to plan B, spending the afternoon in a billard, in which I see I really suck playing it, sometimes I play like a pro, manytimes not... The last time before this, I was the king of the place, just like in bowling, my biggest score was 270, but after that my scores average are 80...
Right after the billiard we went to a friend place and from there to an "Antro" (night club) one of my favorites in town Iconos, the play a mix of latin and electronic music, and everyweek they chance an special performance, in which a guy or a girl make some stage dancing using special dressing, this week was an indian motive, I take video with my mobile, and also a photo, but being from the mobile are not as good as it should.Video
See ya'
I hope our tripping plans in springbreak don't sink as the other ones... In Mexico everybody has springbreak even if you are not a student, but if you are not a student you only get 4 days.
I'm going to try this mobile blogging, but I'm afraid of the cost, since I have GPRS expenses of more than $13.00 usd, and I don't want to expend a lot on that... Every month my mobile expenses are about $40.00 usd to $60.00 usd, thanks to my GPRS usage this month (new mobile, a lot of browsing) my bill will be in the best case $60.00 in the worst scenario $70.00, I know is not much, but when you are used to spend almost the same amount of money every month, if it changes you feel bad, and this month I spent a lot.
Every month I spend about $300.00 to $400.00 usd, so far this month I have spend $550.00 usd
I hate money issues, but since on wednesday I'm going on vacation... my expenses are going sky high (a lot by mexican standarts).
