From September 3th to 5th, in Santiago de Queretaro, a city many people from Vasque origin (Spain north east), will be the host of the "Jornada de Cultura Vasca" (Vasque Culture Journey) in which there will be short films, conferences, debates, music, theater, literature and more.
This is organized by the "Escuela de Laudería" (school of violin makers and ohter musical instruments) and the Vasque community.
The event will take place in the "Escuela de Laudería" in the historic downtown, Hidalgo street near the "Teatro de la República" (Republic Theater)

The city of Santiago de Queretaro will be host of the "3rd Encounter of Film and Video" a festival where young film creators submitted their work, over 27 movies where submitted and only 11 where chosen to show on the festival.
Last year the main topic of the films where "young problematic" this year is more documentary style, there will be also workshops and conferences.
The organizers are specting over 3000 young students and creators to be at the festival.
The festival will take place from September 5th to 7th on the "Cineteatro Rosalío Solano" in historic downtown Querétaro, in front of Guerrero Garden (next to the municipality art gallery)
In 2006 some college friends submitted their short and was chosen.

The people from other countries that live in Queretaro organized, with help of local goverment, a festival of two days, with music, food, clothing and many other stuff that define their cultures. They wanted to show the Queretanos a bit of their home lands.
According to the organizers there where 33 nations represented in the event (more than I expected).
I like this kind of events because it helps to understand our neighbors better also to understand the world.
The biggest communities:
- Spain
- USA
- France
- Italy
- Korea (south)
- Chinese
- Germany
That explains why there are consulates of Spain (and Vasque country), France, Italy and Germany in the city, being so close to Mexico City.

The city cultural festival came to an end today, with great presentations free of charge, the only bad thing is that due to the "stupid attack" on the 7th of march there was not a single rock concert.
Still a good week for free cultural events.
I went to jazz concerts and some other in the public plazas in Downtown (historic district)
Also today was the Nascar in Queretaro, in the new racing circuit.

Santiago de Queretaro is going to be the home of the first International Hispanic Dance Festival (Hispanic is for Spain), the festival will take place from 15 to the 28th of july.
Spain has several traditional floklore dance, the most famous one is the "Flamenco" with the super known Sevillanas (Seville). But there are several and different forms of hispanic dance (hispanic = spain)
So if you are in the city those days, well enjoy the international hispanich dance fastival, the first of many to come, with the most important dance companies of contemporary and classic dance from all over the world, and the most important companies from Spain will be here too.

The name of the city is no Queretaro, is "Santiago de Queretaro" and every year there is a festival that takes place in the city, it is an art festival, with all kind of art expresions. This year it took place form 8 to 15 of april.
The venue for this festival is the entire historic district, all the plazas and gardens, also the public library, the auditorium and theaters in the city. The event is totally free of charge and has also other activities besides just apreciate the show, there are workshops to perform, to create, to became and artists, and many of this were created for the children.
According to the official numbers 240,000 people attended to the festival this year.
This event is organized by the city goverment, there are also other art festivals in the city, the "Jolgorio" which is organized by the state, the anniversary of the city festival, and the International Alternative Theater Festival, this are the ones I can recall.
If you want to know all about the artistic life in Queretaro you can visit the Ministry of Culture website, they list all the cultural events, many of those are free, or extremly affordable. Go to

I put this info because I met with a girl from the US that told me she visited the ONLY museum in Queretaro, so, in order to promote the cultural life in my city, I provide you this information and hope to continue to do so.
