Burning Drug Dealers

, , ,

In the easter sunday the tradition marks that a "Judas" must be burn, that is a representation of bad and evil, every year people choose which person or topic will be burn, with fireworks and a party atmosphere, and this year also marked the start of the "Festival Santiago de Querétaro" a cultural festival that takes part every year in all the public plazas of the city.

This year the Judas topic was "Drug dealers", "Drug addicts", "Violence", "Alcoholism" and the "Global Crisis"

Seems the hot topics in the news.

Silence Procession

, , , ...

Some people have mail me to ask about the silence procession, well I did a post last year (that long!!) you can see it here, plus I'm going to add some stuff.

The silence procession is a tradition brought to mexico by the spaniards, we were a viceroyalty of Spain back then.

The idea is to represent the suffering of Jesus and people who belive to be a sinner decide to suffer in the same way to get their sin forgoten and start clean again. In order to do that they carry wooden crosses and chains, in barefoot, but to avoid bad actions against them for being sinners they dress using tunics of the same color and masks that covers their faces and height, so it is almos imposible to find out who is who, the suits looks a lot like the KKK suits but not related at all.

This event takes place in almos every city, town, village or community in the country, being more amazing the bigger and more conservative the city is, so in Queretaro is really a big event, since is a large city with very conservative roots.

I have also photos of the procession, to see it in person is really impressive, it is a shocking experience, even if you are not a believer.

Semana Santa and Easter

, , , ...

Here in Mexico this week was Holy Week and next week is going to be Easter, translated are "Semana Santa" and "Pascua", here we don't have the easter bunny, nor the eggs or anything like that, actually almost nobody here knows anything about those traditions.

Here is more religous and has it's own personality.

Yesterday was Glory Saturday the day when we buy cardboard dolls that represent Judas or the devil, and this dolls are filled with fireworks, at night we light them and see how Judas burn in hell.

Also on friday, that is Holy Friday there is the march of silence.

I have great photos of that march from last year, because this year I was in Miami!!

Here it is the March of Silence photos
And here last year Holy week photos.
