Z1-Glass

, ,

The experimental skin I released a few days ago was very unfinished. Today I can offer a more polished version. It contains not only important bugfixes, I also changed the colors. I hope you'll enjoy Z1-Glass.

Download: Z1-Glass v1.00 (save to your <Opera directory>/skin folder)

>> A newer version is available. <<

Warning: This skin is made for Opera 10.5, it will not work in prior versions. Also this skin is made for OS supporting transparent windows, it may look odd without it. In current Opera 10.5 pre-alphas transparency in the inner parts of the Opera window does only work partly, read instructions below.

Changelog: v1.00
- new colors
- fixed corrupting rounded corners
- addressfield and panels with some transparency
- native dialogs
- many minor bugfixes

How to use transparency in current (build 3186) versions of Opera 10.5:
Currently transparency for the "inner parts" of the Opera window works only under some conditions. With the pagebar at it's default position, those inner parts (like speeddial background) will not be transparent but solid black. More information on this matter can be found here and here.

In short:
It works flawless with the tabbar at the right side and thumbs enabled.
It works with the tabbar at the bottom and thumbs disabled.
And it works with thumbs enabled and the tabbar at the left, but you have to switch the tabbar from top/bottom to left after every restart. You can get a button (fullscreen-icon) for tabbar at the left, one press will fix transparency: click me to get the button (Thanks tomu for the idea).

The screenshots show Windows 7 with the soft7 custom visual style. If you are disturbed by a white gradient in your transparent speeddial, you may want to switch to a custom visual style too.

I just posted an update btw.

Downloaded the latest pre alpha release

Tabs on left won't work anymore

right and bottom without thumbnails still work though

Z1-AV69 Monday, January 18, 2010 8:57:35 AM

With tabs on the left you have to switch the tabbar from top/bottom to left after every restart. The button in the posting can help with that.
Under that condition transparency works fine with the 3199 build here.

Michael writes: Will this work in Opera 10.10, as that's the newest version on Opera's web site?

Z1-AV69 Tuesday, January 19, 2010 6:25:37 PM

This skin will not work under Opera 10.10, it's only for development snapshots from the Desktop Team blog: http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/

Under Opera 10.10 push buttons would be black on black for example, so don't try it.

Aleksander AasAleksander Sunday, January 24, 2010 11:29:48 PM

I'm getting all black for the latest 10.50 snapshot in win7 smile

Z1-AV69 Sunday, January 24, 2010 11:35:14 PM

Have you read and followed the "How to use transparency"-part above? Until now no snapshot changed anything on the matter of transparency.

Aleksander AasAleksander Monday, January 25, 2010 9:01:27 AM

Seems like I had a minor RTFM issue smile Working like a charm now!

Great. And thanks for all the publicity! wink

The transparency works only with OS supporting transparency, so under Windows XP it will not work right. Everything transparent will be flat gray.

Marcus2403 Monday, January 25, 2010 2:24:10 PM

Yup. Gray here. Dammit!

Marcin Kucharskiomen1989 Monday, January 25, 2010 3:32:26 PM

what a pitty:(

Z1-AV69 Monday, January 25, 2010 3:43:42 PM

Yes, and I'm afraid Opera can't do anything on that matter because the transparency has to come from the OS in the end.
But in regards of transparency with any tabbar-position I'm quite optimistic they will make it work after this weekends posting from mitchman2 in the forum thread.

Z1-AV69 Sunday, January 31, 2010 12:39:03 AM

I don't know if the auto install got todays update. You need the newest snapshot from the Desktop Team blog and the newest Z1-Glass version. Then it should work without any tabbar switching.

1. Windows Vista or 7 is need
2. You need the latest snapshot from the Desktop Team blog (Backup Opera before installing) : http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/
3. Please use the latest version of the skin: http://my.opera.com/community/customize/skins/info/?id=9281

Z1-AV69 Monday, February 1, 2010 6:19:20 PM

Rightclick the tabbar, in the menu you will find "tabbar placement". But with the latest version of the skin and the latest snapshot from the Desktop Deam blog transparency also works with the default tabbar position.

Z1-AV69 Monday, February 1, 2010 6:35:35 PM

Does the standard_skin have a transparent tabbar on your system? If not, it will not work on your operating system.
Other than that, I don't know, with both the newest snapshot and the newest skin version it should work.

Anonymous Monday, February 1, 2010 6:39:11 PM

Anonymous writes: it doesnt show standard skin it shows Native MacOS skin, Opera Standard, and Z1-Glass v1.22. I have downloaded the v10.5 of Opera and the skin from the link you gave me. Are there other steps to aquire this standard_skin transparent tabbar.

Z1-AV69 Monday, February 1, 2010 6:42:20 PM

MacOS, I see. As far as I know MacOS doesn't support transparent windows. I'm sorry.

It works on Vista. You need a recent snapshot of Opera 10.5 from the Desktop Team Blog: http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/

That is a problem with the vista default visual style. Just google for "vista glazz".

Thats the known issue with transparency and plugins. It needs a fix from Operas side.
