I think this is a good way to start a new blog. :up:

It could be argued that 'bedroom', 'somewhere' and 'motorbike' are technically already two words but we'll let it pass. :D .

Actually, compound is a verb in this context so you would speak of compounded words. But that only applies to the linguistic practise of using two words to refer to a single item. Once you join two words together in a written sentence, it's called a concatenation. Literally, that means, 'joined together'. So, although they are written as one, they are still actually two seperate words.

Either that or I completely spaced out twenty years ago when my english teacher explained it. :lol:

Actually, I have at least two other accounts here, but I've not been near them for a while. And I think I might have a forgotten one too, from when I first started using Opera. Pity I forgot it, it would have had a certain cachet (not many 2002 accounts around).

@ Moe ~ I think it'll take a very short time for people to realize that this blog is far from normal. :lol:

@ Aadil ~ Thank for explaining it. :up: In Danish, when you compound words, you count them as one word. They are also always written in one word, they are never split up in two.

@ Mart ~ No, I had other purposes in mind for this blog, it just never happened, so it was (almost) blank the whole time.

I should point out that in Afrikaans, each unique concept is depicted as a single word. For example, a fire lighter would be a 'fuuraansteker'. This gives rise to some extremely long words. But it eliminates any uncertainty as to whether or not one should join words together. It also eliminates the hyphen. :up:
