Daylight savings time
Sunday, 29. March 2009, 05:26:56
I never liked setting clocks neither back nor forward. It takes my inner clock some time to adjust, and especially here in March where we loose an hour.
Anyway - I've been browsing around to find the effects of this, and it seems that the answer you get depends on where you look. Some say we save energy, some say we don't.
So I have set my clock like I'm supposed to. But I'm not liking it.

I know what you mean.

It will be obvious when a sun goes down this afternoon. It will be dark sooner than we expect
Zaphira # 29. March 2009, 07:05
@ Darko ~ This year I remembered to set my watches before going to bed, and that's a good thing. And I still woke up pretty early. Let's see how long it'll take me to adjust this time.

What about daylight savings time, we also had this thing last night. But they are clever to make it before sunday, so people have enough time to sleep. As for me, I don't have troubles with it.

I don't know about saving energy, but I heard it's so that we'll have daylight longer in the afternoon instead of the morning. I'm ok with that
Zaphira # 29. March 2009, 12:20
@ Rose ~ Right now I feel ok, but I might be tired tonight. Or maybe fully awake, I don't know.
I like my mornings. Always have, always will.

"Daylight saving time did indeed begin in the United States during World War I, primarily to save fuel by reducing the need to use artificial lighting. Although some states and communities observed daylight saving time between the wars, it was not observed nationally again until World War II.
Of course, World War II is long over. So why do we still observe daylight saving time?"

I also don't understand this thing of time shifting, it makes things so bloody difficult. Why don't we just get up a little earlier in summer when we want to save energy and enjoy longer light in the evening?
I once played around with showing local times on a website, and also included DST. There are quite some different moments people in the world shift their clock, and then of course they all shift it at their own local time (often between 2 and 3, but local time, so on a different moment on every timezone). It's a killer to get schedules right, like flight plans etc. And there is no real winning in it in my view.

@ Carol ~ Thanks for the links.
@ Jurjen ~ Interesting points of views on the flight plans, I didn't even think of that. I know that we have some kind of society here, trying to abolish the phenomenon!
@ Marike ~ You're are one lucky kitteh!
@ Canadagirl ~ That's nice to hear that there are some positive effects of the DST!
@ Jen ~ I thought the grim reaper fitted this post just nicely, telling that it's not just me who have problems with adjusting the clocks.
@ Angeliki ~ Hmmm... that's a good question indeed! Perhaps the same place as all the single socks that disappear from the washing machine?
