Kitty's Corner

Personal license plates

,

When talking about cars in my country, it's not just the purchase price that makes buyers cringe.
Denmark also has the highest vehicle licence plate registration fees in all of Europe at 1,180 kroner (158 EUR). That’s 1,000 kroner (134 EUR) more than it should be, according to consumer groups.

Both the Association of Danish Car Owners (FDM) and the Danish Federation of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises are criticising the fee as a not-so-honest way for the state to make vast sums of money off the nation's car owners.

According to the government's budget for 2009, fees associated with licence plates, vehicle registration and change of ownership are expected to bring in 780 million kroner (104 million EUR) to the state's pockets. In all, consumers will pay around 29 billion kroner to the state this year for the luxury of owning a vehicle.

The Tax Department itself indicates that service costs pertaining to plate registration amount to 160 kroner (21.5 EUR), with the plates themselves costing 22 kroner (3 EUR) each.

Overall car owner fees have dropped in the past two years, according to Tax Ministry figures, which show state incomes of around 36 billion kroner (4.8 billion EUR) in 2007 compared to the current 29 billion kroner (3.9 billion EUR) this year. But while licence plate fees are expected to drop next year, overall costs for vehicle owners are expected to rise again to give the state around 33 billion kroner (4.4 billion EUR).

I've always thought that the idea of licence plates with your own text on it was kind of stupid. I mean - it's only for show off, or...? But - if you had a car or another vehicle with a plate on it - and you didn't have to pay for getting your own text on it - What would your text be?

You're welcome.

They aren't that common here yet - I think the prices are too high.

jekav 11. August 2009, 05:34

Haha, well governments have no trouble getting their money one way or another.

We can't choose our number of the plate over here, and I'm glad that it isn't possible actually. I have no idea what I would have to choose when I could...

qlue 11. August 2009, 05:58

the prices are too high here as well, but that doesn't stop people from getting vanity plates. p:.
how about, "4Q2 ZN".
or for they ladies, "BRN 2 SHP" :D.(blogging kittens not excluded) p:.

Amnith 11. August 2009, 06:47

darkesthour 11. August 2009, 10:07

garlingmatthews 11. August 2009, 10:23

Hmm, but on the other hand, roads, traffic lights, parking places, etc., etc.

Banzai.

Furie 11. August 2009, 11:15

Personalised license plates were the first things to use text speak. I'll pass for that reason.

I always liked the idea of paying extra for a plate that I could type in whatever I wanted during the day and it'd display.

ellinidata 11. August 2009, 16:19

yes the price is very high,
still cool ,
and the only way to remember my plates

Dacotah 11. August 2009, 16:56

garlingmatthews 11. August 2009, 17:06

This only makes sense if you know that "J" is pronounced almost like "Y" in English;

(A licience plate that didn't make it).

Yours is cool, I didn't see it on my 'phone.

Zaphira 11. August 2009, 19:16

Haha, cool. I wouldn't pay for one myself - but if they were free I would definitely consider it.

What about BKR KTY ? Assuming that it was on my bike, of course!

garlingmatthews 11. August 2009, 19:18

lol, that you ould fix with-out paying the tax

Zaphira 11. August 2009, 19:22

No no, I was thinking about my motorbike!

clean 11. August 2009, 23:05

It was in the news that a vegetarian over here wanted I♥TOFU, but it was denied because the people in charge thought it would be read as "I Love to F U".

Furie 11. August 2009, 23:32

If that's not true it's a bloody clever joke.

flamingo-rinse 12. August 2009, 00:01

In NZ there's a max of 6 characters yo can have on a (custom) licence plate - and most of them are crappily unimaginitive...altho' I see one regularly that makes me laugh, which is simply :

KOOZER (NZ slang for Penis)

...and there's heaps of variants on 2SXY4U, 2HOT4U and all that  all driven by unattractive males, obviously...

...and my all time favourite (which I covet, unusually) :

EEDJIT

Zaphira 12. August 2009, 05:20

@ David ~ If I had seen the I♥TOFU - I would never have thought of a vegetarian :left:

@ Mr Rinse ~ EEDJIT...
I've been reading it out loud several times now, and still there's no bell ringing. :left:

flamingo-rinse 12. August 2009, 07:56

@Pussy Cat : Call someone an eedjit in Eire and they will consider themself to be an idiot. An affectionate term, rather than an insult

Zaphira 12. August 2009, 08:03

Ah, of course Homer: Doh! @ myself. I was so focused on reading the letters one by one. :D

flamingo-rinse 12. August 2009, 09:19

Ha - yeah well - got to say that so far, in NZ anyway - you see a custom license plate, and you usually think 'fuckwit'...but eedjit is an exception - I'd have that one...(not that I can of course, because some eedjit already has it )

Zaphira 12. August 2009, 09:21

You could be idjit2 then.

garlingmatthews 12. August 2009, 09:31

The feckin' eejit spellt it wrong, so the field is still open :D.

flamingo-rinse 12. August 2009, 10:09

 so there you go - I can have eejit and still be proud :D

About $600 NZ (just over 2000 kroner, so that's a bargain )

qlue 12. August 2009, 10:47

try ID10T p:.

flamingo-rinse 12. August 2009, 19:47

Thanks for the advice, and I'll bear it in mind....

wickedlizard 12. August 2009, 19:59

I have seen such funny ones in the States... but I personally never thought of getting one for myself. :D

Aqualion 12. August 2009, 20:07

My choice would be

DIN MOR

flamingo-rinse 14. August 2009, 00:42

I saw a pic of a flash american sportscar, with a very young dude driving it, and the plate was THANKS DAD - which made me laugh

Zaphira 14. August 2009, 04:08

@ Lion ~ Perhaps that would make some drive nicer

@ Mr Rinse ~ That honesty and humour in one!

flamingo-rinse 14. August 2009, 07:39

@Lion, Pussy Cat - is that like, 'Your Mom'???

(@Pussy Cat - yeah  - there's more than one meaning to the words 'giving credit' isn't there  )

Zaphira 14. August 2009, 07:53

That's "Your mom" indeed - and that's right about giving credit.

...

P:

flamingo-rinse 14. August 2009, 08:03

Here's one for you :

Zaphira 14. August 2009, 08:39

qlue 14. August 2009, 14:03

I saw a maroon coloured car with the number plate 'cyan' yesterday! p:.
Perhaps they are colour blind? :left:.
It was driving past so I didn't get a chance to capture it in photo. But I'll try to look for it around for a future photo-op..

Furie 14. August 2009, 14:54

Zaphira 14. August 2009, 18:09

@ Aadil ~ Sounds cool! Looking forward to that!

...

garlingmatthews 14. August 2009, 18:30

I can't read the plate, but cuuute!

Zaphira 14. August 2009, 18:31

It says 666bo1 :D

garlingmatthews 14. August 2009, 18:34

666, the number of the bunny... hmm, could work.

Zaphira 14. August 2009, 18:36

It could definitely work. Hellbunnyboi

flamingo-rinse 14. August 2009, 18:56

One more for you, Pussy Cat - I couldn't resist :

Zaphira 14. August 2009, 19:02

Aww, that's sweet.

I found this one for you:

flamingo-rinse 14. August 2009, 19:23

Yeah - thanks Pussy Cat

...and...ummmm....

Zaphira 14. August 2009, 19:59

Speaking of which... *rubs legs* :o:

Hahaha... :D

Okay, I think I'm going to roll off my sofa from laughter soon:

qlue 15. August 2009, 07:51

:eyes:. someone super-glued a number slave to that rabbit's paws! :insane:.

Aqualion 15. August 2009, 17:10

Reminds me of an episode of 'Seinfeld' (not that I like the show much, but it can be entertaining) where Kramer gets a number plate saying ASSMAN. He is of course very prowd. Then he finds out that the local proctologist has a similar plate, and it ends up with some kind of very twisted competition between the assmen. The proctologist gets to keep his plate, but Kramer is still ASSMAN to his friends.

Personally I'm a BOOBMAN more than an ASSMAN, but each for his preference as they say in Italy.

Zaphira 15. August 2009, 19:28

I've heard of men that are both ASS- and BOOBMEN - so ... are they BOTHMEN on the plate?

*Hopes that I'm not the only one who find that hysterically funny* :D

qlue 16. August 2009, 23:04

'ASSMAN' is just so easy to missinterpret!!! :insane:.

flamingo-rinse 27. August 2009, 00:36

@Pussy Cat : I saw this outside my office this morning  I knew you'd want to see it
