Kitty's Corner

Not this week dear, I have a headache...

,

If you've got a headache it's a common advice to have a Panodil (or Panadol, or whatever they call the paracetamol tablets in your country). They also work for minor muscle pain, pain in teeth, menstruation pain and other types of pain.

Then the medical firm invented Panodil Zapp - with the same contents as the regular Panodil, but the Zapp version works much faster, and helps you over your headache sooner.

Now I wonder - why are they still selling the regular Panodil tablets? I mean, are there really people who says: "Damn, I've got a headache, but I only want to get rid of it slowly?

And it gets even worse. I just discovered that they come in an even slower version: The Panodil Retard:

WTF???

Are people masochists, or what?

Not me. I take stuff to PREVENT headaches.

Zaphira 22. August 2009, 04:49

Ah... I see. :D

Stardancer 22. August 2009, 04:54

:D

derWandersmann 22. August 2009, 04:55

It's acetaminophen in the States.

flamingo-rinse 22. August 2009, 05:12

I usually take 3 panadol + 3 brufen in one hit, that pretty much wipes and aches and pains. The trouble is (especially with panadol) that they affect your liver function etc. in some way, and if you have blood tests after having a cold, for instance (and taking panadol) you get these elevated blood readings (due to the panadol) that makes the doctor call you back for more tests, in case it's something sinister. It happened to me, and thus cost me twice as much for the doctor to announce that I'm fitter than he is

Gosh! I hate to sound like a nerd,
(I hav a niece working at Johnson & Johnson on the fast relief pain killers)
the fast relief is like the
"extra strength Tylenol" ,
it is so strong,
that people with high blood pressure or kidney problems shouldn't take it :frown:
actually resently in the US the "extra strength"

*means fast relief*,

was pulled out of the shelves because people did not realize the risks

ellinidata 22. August 2009, 05:21

PS

the dose in the slow relief is always safer

Dacotah 22. August 2009, 05:28

dbshadow 22. August 2009, 06:04

I usually cure my headaches by turning off my computer, maybe spend to much time with it. Oh, I also givesome to Angeliki...

darkesthour 22. August 2009, 06:13

Panadol Retard, the choice for slow thinkers

jekav 22. August 2009, 07:00

I stopped using this stuff. As a kid I used to have headaches quite often, and learned that the best cure is calm down a moment, ideally have a little nap. Those pills don't really work much in my experience.
Later a learned that they are not to healthy, so you shouldn't be taking to much. I see people using this stuff very often, that kind of worries me, knowing you can start being addicted to it as well.

Finally I decided pain killers doesn't cure anything, so you just have to be a little harsh and deal with the pain. If it really such pain, that you can't handle, you probably need morphine instead

Panadol Retard, would be like light cigarettes I guess. :D

Spaggyj 22. August 2009, 08:05

I imagine that the slow ones are easier on the digestive system?

Moesring 22. August 2009, 08:49

How sweet. (Almost) Personalised pain relief for the Kitty. :cat:
But... the Kitty doesn't ever feel pain, because she's a super :ninjacat:, right? :swoon:

I must say, the label on the Panadil Retard bottle looks a little suspect to me. :sherlock:

Cois 22. August 2009, 09:15

Is there a price difference between the Zap, ordinary and retard? :left:

wickedlizard 22. August 2009, 11:08

I avoid taking meds anyways. :left:

Furie 22. August 2009, 12:32

You come in pill form?

derWandersmann 22. August 2009, 15:12

Acetaminophen works in the liver ... and it's more than possible to really bugger up your liver with too much of it.

Ibuprofen, on the other hand, can cause massive, sometimes fatal, stomach bleeding. Aspirin (sodium acetyl salicilate) does the same thing, but not as severely.

AND ... this is important ... do not give these things to animals, unless directed by a vet. I used to give my doggy an aspirin every day (WITH her meal, to avoid stomach damage) for her arthritis, on my vet's advice. But the danger is very great ... acetaminophen, in particular, can kill animals, and frequently does. It's not pretty, nor is it humane. Don't do it.

Furie 22. August 2009, 15:19

Moe, it's a pharmacist's bottle.

Moesring 22. August 2009, 16:12

Did I really call it a bottle? :o: That's what happens when you're tired... and thirsty. Homer: Doh!

It still seems to me as though she is being naughty and trying to deceive us. I think she removed the label from that container, printed a new label on the other side (hence there is reversed text visible through the label) and tried to stick her false label back onto the bottle - but didn't do it very well.

For being caught, I say she should be rewarded with a nice bath.
No! U go chek! Manual sez 'Self-Kleening'

Marike79 22. August 2009, 16:12

When I have a headache I take a powder that is about half paracetamol and half aspirin. They say many people are addicted to it.
I take it because I get really bad sinus headaches and it's the only thing that solves it fast. Grandpa

Zaphira 22. August 2009, 18:39

Thanks dudes and dudettes for all your comments! I'm sitting here, smiling, re-reading them.

I don't eat painkillers very often, I usually try to find the reason and deal with that instead, but of course it can be necessary, with a flu for instance. Then I take 2 paracetamol and 2 ibuprofen and go to bed, and that usually helps.

As for the label on the last bottle - it's the warning thing that's underneath it. You can see a red little arrow on the left - pull in that, and there you have your warnings. :D

And I do not need a bath!

Cois 22. August 2009, 18:45

That's what all cats say the mangy animals

Zaphira 22. August 2009, 18:49

Mangy...? That's what fit a wolf perfectly! *ducks Cois under the water*

Moesring 22. August 2009, 19:11

By the fact GlaxoSmithKline doesn't seem to list Panodil Retard as a product of theirs [English Translation], I'm presuming it isn't widespread yet.

:sst: I was tempted to say that this was further proof - but the kitty doesn't lie, does she?:chinscratch:
Besides, other websites seem to have heard of it - although it seems odd that Google has only found one picture of Panodil Retard. In fact, it is exactly the same as this one but it was uploaded to Flickr. awww

garlingmatthews 23. August 2009, 18:24

I drink water.

One of the tablet companys used to say in their ads, nothing works faster than x, so my dad took nothing. If it's faster...

Minenow 24. August 2009, 13:31

*gives Zaph a firehose*

If he gets outta hand, just give em a blast of this... He'll be compliant... Promise.

:D

Cois 25. August 2009, 08:42

 I clean up nicely no?
Ever seen a cat get bathed? neither have I :insane:

Minenow 25. August 2009, 12:46

*raises hand* Um, I have.

But to the defense of kitties everywhere, they do a good job of trying to stay immaculately clean in between. :o:

:left: Can't say that for wolves. But yes, you do clean up nicely.

derWandersmann 25. August 2009, 14:44

I've bathed my white lion only once, when he picked up fleas from a visitor. He seemed to understand that this was going to help him, which it did. He was very well-behaved, beyond a few mild vocal complaints. He was the best cat I've ever known ... he died some 20 years ago, now, and I miss him every day.

Zaph, dear ... the juxtaposition of the butterflies (?) and the kitty, up at the top of this blog, reminds me of my parents' old Siamese, who absolutely came unglued one evening when a luna moth fluttered just outside the screen of the window she was sitting in ... her vocalisations were pure "cat", but were obvious in meaning: "I want it! I want it! I want it!"

Suntana 25. August 2009, 17:25

3 Panadol AND 3 Brufen (Ibuprofen?) in ONE hit? :insane:
Day-Um!

Have y'all ever noticed that when they make a "For Back Pain" version of a pain killer, usually the super, special, high tech ingredient they add is caffeine?

You mean me?? Yeah - sure. Works very well, especially if washed down with a mouthfull of cool beer. Seriously...

...and yeah, the old caffeine trick - I seem to remember hearing that it does actually help, but whether it helps chemically, or just because the caffiene gives you a big boost, I don't know...

Suntana 26. August 2009, 00:12

That's 6 tablets / capsules of Pain Relievers in 1 shot. Wooooooo! I've never taken more than two in one shot, which is the most that is recommended. Hopefully you don't do that with any remote regular frequency. :insane:

My theory behind the caffeine in the Back Pain Pills is that the back pain is likely to be because of tight muscles. The caffeine will wire you up  and get the muscles jittering and thus - LOOSE. But, I could be completely wrong.

Cois 26. August 2009, 00:21

Babe.. Clean in between? Can someone say furball? :yuck:

Minenow 26. August 2009, 00:56

Um. :left: Okay! You got me.

rose-marie 29. August 2009, 17:03

Caffeine widens the veins as far I remember. I know some people who'll take caffeine pills when they have headaches. Works for them, I suppose.
I don't often take anything against headaches (except migraines), but these last four days I've had to. Panodil Zap, actually. And I didn't get the Zap/Zap connection until now Homer: Doh!. :D

Moesring 29. August 2009, 17:07

I didn't get the Zap/Zap connection until now .

You should be ashamed of yourself. :irked:

rose-marie 29. August 2009, 17:22

I am. awww

Furie 29. August 2009, 18:20

Good. Now put on a maid's uniform and make up for your transgression.

Zaphira 29. August 2009, 18:49

*leans back and waits expectantly*

Furie 29. August 2009, 19:29

You're such a guy.

rose-marie 29. August 2009, 19:33

*huff*

Fine! :irked:
But I expect a raise...

Furie 29. August 2009, 19:48

Rose, how many appletinis did you drink because you appear to have gained the body of a gay man. :left:

Zaphira 29. August 2009, 19:49

:eyes:

Granted!

rose-marie 29. August 2009, 20:58

Only one. My arms and lower legs are still girly... :right:

Zaphira 30. August 2009, 04:31

*lots of inappropriate suggestions spring to mind* :bomb:

Furie 30. August 2009, 09:47

Do tell?

therealanodyne 30. August 2009, 12:21

Medicine is poison most of the time and it fights the symptoms rather than the cause.
Analgesics, if used rarely, might be convenient sometimes but to know what happens with medicines watch this if you find the time:

Zaphira 30. August 2009, 19:50

@ Mik ~ I don't want to ruin your innocent mind. :D

@ Anodyne ~ Thanks for the link and the hint - I'll look at it one of these days.

Furie 30. August 2009, 20:55

Yeah, an innocent mind these days is hard to find. :left:
