Kitty's Corner

The Ugly Truth

,

This is the other movie I saw the day that all movies were half price here.

Abby (Katherine Heigl) is a producer of a local morning show in California. She lives with her cat in a beautiful apartment complex where she longs to meet Mr. Right. She has a checklist of things that Mr. Right is supposed to live up to, and I tell you - it's not easy for any man to live up to her standards.

To increase the number of viewers to their show, Abby's boss decides to hire Mike (Gerard Butler from "PS. I love you") who has been cultivating a following on cable access with his insight into the truth about relationships. His callous nature and unwavering ability to say exactly what is on his mind breathes life back into Abby's show despite the fear of lowering herself to the kind of television she has always disliked. She can be swayed, however, once he agrees to helping her hook up with her hunk of a neighbour, Colin (Eric Winter). I am not going to spoil the surprise by telling you how that ends. :D

This is a chick flick for both guys and girls. A cute little romantic comedy. I liked it, even though it was a bit predictable. If you liked "When Harry met Sally", you'll also like this movie.

:star::star::star::star: out of 6.

I think the way they are holding the hearts in the picture shows some truth about our nature.

If I can find a Chick to take me, I'll go see it!

Carol 29. October 2009, 05:21

Sounds good.

Gavin Sheedy 29. October 2009, 05:29

I saw that on Saturday. I thought that it was funny, but that it didn't ring true somehow. Her little dances are great, and the scene with the underpants :D

Kitty 29. October 2009, 08:33

@ Phantom ~ I couldn't agree more, about the heart thing. There's also a t-shirt with the same symbolic effect: - I hope a chick will invite you to go see it.

@ Carol ~ It was.

@ Gavin ~ I loved her dances! And the underpants scene was the one that made me refer to When Harry met Sally. :D

Kimmie 29. October 2009, 09:12

I'll probably see this eventually - not much of a romcom fan, but I do like Katherine Heigl and it sounds good :D

Kitty 29. October 2009, 10:15

I don't remember having seen Katherine in anything before, if I have she hasn't done much of an impression. :left:

Ha, romcom - it took me a few minutes to figure out what that is. :D

Kimmie 29. October 2009, 10:18

She's been in lots of romcoms the past few years, like Knocked Up, 27 Dresses, some more I can't remember now. I saw her the first time in a tv show, Roswell.
You've never heard romcom before? :D

Kitty 29. October 2009, 10:20

I just checked imdb.com - and the list of movies she was in, and I haven't seen one single one of them, so it's not so weird I don't remember her. :left:

Romcom, it's a great word, but totally new to me. Did you make it up? :D

Kimmie 29. October 2009, 10:24

No  it's a media word - I don't know exactly when or where it originated, but it has been around here for a very long time :D

Kitty 29. October 2009, 10:25

Hmmm I see :D
Well, then you can take it as a compliment that I thought you made it up.

Gavin Sheedy 29. October 2009, 10:31

I've seen "Bride of Chucky"... wow, I've seen a lot of films, and managed to miss her almost completely. This one looks especially worthwhile. :left:

Kitty 29. October 2009, 10:37

I've seen loads of films too. But I am not really good at recognizing people, so I thought that it was because of that.

Gotta love those guys who say what's on their minds.

Angeliki 29. October 2009, 11:44

four :star: s out of 6 is a fair grade,
thanks for sharing !

a movie that gets bad reviews these days is "Amelia". Despite of the amazing and gifted Hillary Swank, it seems the film will not do as good as it was expected...

Gavin Sheedy 29. October 2009, 11:55

I've seen "Flicka som lekte med eld", the second part of Stig Larsson's trilogy, and must say that I was not impressed; it lacked tension. And it simplified the characters.

Kimmie 29. October 2009, 12:12

I did take it as a compliment p:

Kitty 29. October 2009, 20:27

@ Mik ~ Well, It's easier to deal with people who tell what's on their minds!

@ Angeliki ~ Phantom just reviewed Amelia on his blog, and gave it 2 stars out of 5. Not a movie that made it to my watch-list.

@ Gavin ~ I wasn't impressed either (3 out of 6 stars). I was just invited to watch the last one in the trilogy later next month. My expectations aren't high, but I'm still looking forward to see it.

@ Kimmie ~ You know me well by now.

@ shadow ~ Awww, Thank you so much.

Gavin Sheedy 29. October 2009, 20:35

Cool! It might well be better, I believe that all three parts have different directors. It might have made a better T.V. series, the films are too cursory. Go to bed! Don't work too hard! :psmurf:

Kitty 29. October 2009, 20:38

You're right. I ought to go to bed. *yawns*

Kitty 30. October 2009, 05:24

*giggles*

That's... very interesting...

I've never seen an orange man before! :eyes:

Gavin Sheedy 30. October 2009, 07:12

I have! My grandad's diabetic treatment used to turn him orange. He'd come home with a jacket over his head!

And carrot addiction, of course.

Kitty 30. October 2009, 07:24

Really, he got orange? Wow... that's a special side effect!

I had a friend who ate loads of carrots, she had an orange glow too, especially in the summers. :D

Gavin Sheedy 30. October 2009, 07:57

And great eye sight! :D

If you just whacked me with the part that I painted on David, we're going to have a problem. :yuck:

These family matters always get so complicated.

Suntana 30. October 2009, 16:18

With Katherine Heigl it's already a plus.
I first saw her in Under Siege 2 with Steven Segal. After that I can't really say I saw her in anything until she popped up in her successful stint on the medical drama TV Show here in the USA --- Grey's Anatomy.

Then they Fugged Up her character's direction. Then she pissed off the Show's Writers. I think she had gotten an Emmy Nomination, but she said she didn't deserve it because she hadn't had material worthy of an Emmy Nomination that season. It was obviously a shot at the Writers, especially since she had already been seeking a way OUT of the Show to pursue movies. I guess she got her wish. I don't think she's on Grey's Anatomy anymore.

David Scott Aubrey 30. October 2009, 20:23

* What on Earth happens while I'm asleep? *

Kitty 30. October 2009, 20:40

@ Sunny ~ I've never watched one single episode of Grey's anatomy. Is it worth watching nowadays, or is it just a waste of time?

@ David ~ Never fall asleep when those dudes are around, David. Let that be your lesson for today!

Gavin Sheedy 30. October 2009, 20:49

Now have some candy.

Suntana 30. October 2009, 22:39

Zaph, I would not be the right person to give you the best review / recommendation or not as to whether Grey's Anatomy is worth it nowadays. It used to be in the beginning. Last season sucked and I quit watching probably 1/3 to midway through the season. Some of the storylines were just too stupid and ridiculous for my liking, especially what they were doing with Izzie (Katherine Heigl).

I figured I'd be too lost to know what was going on with the current season. So, I didn't even attempt to get up to speed. I just didn't start watching. I missed probably the first 5 episodes this season and have watched bits & pieces of the last 2 episodes. Bottom line ... I don't know what's going on anymore.

The consensus from my friends on the AOL Grey's Fans OT Board and from my sister is that this season is better than last season, but still NOT up to par with the early seasons.

Mina 31. October 2009, 05:19

I like Katherine Heigel. She's adorable.

And I like verbal sparring movies. I'd give it a whirl and make someone watch it with me. :D

Kitty 31. October 2009, 06:17

@ Gavin ~ Yes please. Is it chocolate? P:

@ Sunny ~ Okay, thanks for that little review - I was just curious because I watch so little TV, but I watch DVDs instead when I want to be entertained. I even bought two series on DVDs; Will & Grace, and Friends. I think I'll just stick with those for now.

@ Minnie ~ Adorable, yes, that's the word!
- I'd watch with you!

Gavin Sheedy 31. October 2009, 08:47

Always!

Kitty 31. October 2009, 11:01

Mmmm... :yum:

Not movies, of course, but Moonlighting and Gilmore Girls spring immediately to mind.

Mina 31. October 2009, 15:24

Kitty, aw... Now, THAT'S adorable.

David, No way... that is not my style. I'm more into House and Big Bang Theory. Sarcastic, quick witted, and well-crafted, intelectual stunners.
