The Angry Birds

Let me tell you right away: I love my phone. I never leave home without it, and the few times I've forgotten it, something like this happens:
Why is it that my phone is so important to me? Well, first of all, it's nice to be able to stay in touch with people. It has also got a GPS, which is very cool when you're as bad at finding your way around as I am. I also use it as a clock, and I occasionally take a picture or two with it.
These are all good reasons, but none of them is the real reason why I love my phone.
I use my phone for entertainment. That means that I'm playing a lot of little games on it, especially the little simple ones that can be interrupted whenever you feel like it.
Several people at work have been talking about the game "Angry Birds", so I wanted to try it out. But man, it wasn't easy to get my hands on. I tried to download it to my work phone, but I think I got the model with the first and therefore not up-to-date software on it. So I can visit the store and put the game into the cart, but when I want to pay, I can't. Denmark is not on the list of countries...
I also tried on my Nokia, but didn't succeed there either.
So - the other day I started my PSP up again, after the hacking of the Sony servers. I updated my account with the new credit card information, and went to the store to see what was new. And there was the "Angry Birds" for download for only 11DKK (1.5EUR)!! I downloaded it instantly, and started playing it. And seriously: It's highly addictive.
Basically it's about a bunch of birds that get their eggs stolen by some naughty pigs. The task is now to fling a bird with the slingshot to destroy the structure in front of you and attack the evil pigs living in and around said structure so you can get the eggs back. Get points, destroy stuff, and be entertained.
I've only completed the first and second "round" of birds, and got to know four different types of birds. There is the original red one, that just fly over and knock down stuff. There's the aggressive yellow one, that will become a little bird-torpedo when you push the X-button. And there are the little blue ones, that turn into three of them when pushing the X, and the black round bird, that explodes shortly after hitting the target.
It's getting harder and harder for each step you complete, but the cool thing about this game that it's simple, and you don't have to play it for hours before you can save.
One of the not so good things is the sound. I can only describe it with one word, and that's "annoying". After the second game, I muted it, and it has been muted since. Problem solved. Another thing is the graphics: It's a very simple game, and if you like fancy 3D graphics, then this game won't satisfy your need for that.
But as I said: I like simple games, so I don't think I'll be tired of The Angry Birds.
I'm already addicted!

I keep the sound on, because I find it really funny, and it also adds an extra level to the challenge, because you have to focus on not being distracted by the totally annoying mumbling of the pigs. I love minigames. One of my favorite sites is miniclip.com, where you can play (and download if you want) millions of simple games like Angry Bird.
Actually there was a game some years ago which was much like Angry Birds, I believe it was called Arctic Challenge or something like that. It was vikings who settled out to save their friends, who were all captured in ice blocks and you had to catapult different stuff: rocks, pigs, cabbage and such - each having different effect at impact - at the ice blocks to free the captured viking friends.
I played that a lot. For hours. A million levels or so. Just like Angry Birds.
Only flaw when playing games on your phone is that the battery life will decrease massively.

Best thing is to launch the black bird so that it will go directly through wood (the brown) walls and get it to explode inside the structure. It turns red by impact, and when red it explodes with even more power.

@ Charles ~ I just tried playing it in Firefox, and it works, but it works *very* slowly.
@ Rob ~ I'm sure that it's just a matter of years before she's fed up with it.
@ Lion ~ It's good that the battery on the PSP is good and pretty long lasting. Plus I've arranged for the charger to be so close that it can recharge while I'm playing the game sitting in my sofa.
@ Flarin ~ I like games, also because it's a good thought-killer, after a long day at work. I remember when I said to myself: I'll have half an hour of Tekken to 'relax' - and then I found myself hysterical and upset half an hour after because I kept being beaten up by the other players
@ Phantom ~ I find that half hour in between chores, for game therapy.
@ Abbinav ~ I have completed a few with three stars, quite a deal with two stars, and some with one star only. I simply don't understand how some levels can be completed with three stars.

Far as I'm concerned, these guys have no place in the game industry and are only here due to being the first free game in the Apple App Store alphabetically. Don't get me wrong, the game can be fun for a while, there are just better things out there and the developers are acting like the saviours of gaming since they lucked out. I wont fault them on merchandising their luck though, as they've cashed in better than most could.

I know there are other games that are both better and funnier, but this is one that entertains me in betweens chores, so...

I did see a funny live version skit of it, with people dressed up in Angry Birds costumes, acting out parts of the game.
