Pokémon. The second most successful and lucrative video game-based media franchise in the world, behind only Nintendo's Mario series.

The name Pokémon is the romanized contraction of the Japanese brand Pocket Monsters.

Pokémon is basically about collecting all of the available Pokémon species found in the fictional region where that game takes place; and to train a team of powerful Pokémon from those they have caught to compete against teams owned by other Trainers, and eventually become the strongest Trainer, the Pokémon Master.

The species look weird. The most famous of them is of course Pikachu:

And the rest of the species have just as weird names, for instance Clefairy, Squirtle, Rattata and Jigglypuff...

As if those names weren't weird enough, just imagine what would happen if they bred!!

My son grew up during the Pokemon Storm in the late nineties, but never got hooked. In fact he thought the idea was really weird. One day he told me that one of his class mates and him had invented a new game called 'Board', and I thought 'Oh, board gaming, right?' but it turned out it was a joke to make fun of the Pokemon fans in his class. The concept was old pieces of board with numbers carved into them, collectables, and they actually made up a very complicated game to be played with these pieces of board (that they just found lying around). They would take a game of 'Board' in the breaks when the others were playing or trading Pokemon, sitting with old pieces of wood at the table beside Pokemon gamers with very rare and expensive trading cards. Just for the fun of it.

Oh, I know the game of 'Board', but I'd rather play Pokemon games on my GBA or GB, I have card phobia, haha~ I'm not good all kinds of card games.

And the cards, well, they are totally cheap here for the pirated version is your only choice here... At least my friends' only choice..
