Feel free to comment on whatever you find interesting, and please leave your mark here in my guestbook. It'd be nice if you write where you come from - it's fun to see visitors from all over the world.
I saw a truck the other day. There's nothing weird in that - I live in a big city, there are lots of trucks passing by every day.
And Danes that don't spend as much time around English speaking people as I do, would probably just have passed the truck without thinking there's anything special about that truck. But me - I spend so much time here, that I often find myself thinking in English, and that is the fact that made me notice the truck, stop my bicycle and get off, and walk back to take this picture for you.
I don't know what it was the driver collected. And seeing the name of the company, I'm not sure I want to know.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you: Super Gross! - and with the sub text: - delivers the goods!
Fireworks - it's so pretty. I really like watching it. It lights up the sky, has pretty colours, like little stars and suns exploding in an infernal of beautiful lights.
I find that taking pictures of it is hard. It's unpredictable, you never know which directions you're supposed to point your camera, and it's gone again in a flash.
I do try, and here's a couple of results from new years evening 2009/2010:
We have reached the last day of 2009 and I just heard on the radio that all bloggers with respect for themselves have at least one list of something that happened during the year. I couldn't just ignore a statement like that, so I thought I'd take the opportunity and use this last post of 2009 to show you a couple of lists of what we Catfianians use Google for.
Most popular Google searches in Catfiania in 2009:
10. tv2 (A Danish national news broadcaster. The second biggest one.) 9. translate (No comments. ) 8. y8 (I had to google that myself to see what it is. It's a game site. ) 7. hotmail (I wonder why people are googling that.) 6. dba (A Danish site where you can sell your old stuff, or buy somebody else's old stuff.) 5. dmi (Our national weather forecaster institute.) 4. facebook login (Why don't people bookmark that site? ) 3. krak (A site that can show you addresses on a map) 2. youtube (Again - why google it? Just go there!) 1. facebook ()
And most googled celebreties: 10. Chris Macdonald 9. Bruce Springsteen 8. Paris Hilton 7. Patrick Swayze 6. Caroline Wozniacki 5. Medina 4. Britney Spears 3. Miley Cyrus 2. Megan Fox 1. Michael Jackson
It's funny that 2½ Danes actually made it to the list. The half one is Chris McDonald, who is American, but lives in Denmark. It's amazing how the death of someone can make the number of searches increase - proven by both Patrick Swayze and Michael Jackson.
The last top ten list is the most searched travel destinations:
10. New York 9. Berlin 8. Iceland 7. Egypt 6. Turkey 5. Paris 4. London 3. Thailand 2. Rome 1. USA
What can I say but "Yes please, I'd love to go there!"
Have a fantastic and fabulous new year. Thanks for all the great time we shared - and I'm looking so much forward to more fun in 2010.
I'm still off from work and I'm not going back until January the 4th! :yay:
Yesterday I decided to go to Sweden. Their big sale started right after Christmas, and since the Swedish krone is weak compared to the Danish one, it's very much cheaper to shop there these days.
So I took the train there, it only takes about 40 minutes from Copenhagen Central Station.
I didn't really find anything on sale, but there are so many cool stores there, so I found some good stuff anyway. Here's a few of the things I bought:
A seriously cool water dragon ring. I fell in love with ring the moment I laid eyes on it.
New eye make up. I don't think I'll ever get tired of black eye make up. The eye pencil is black with glitter in it.
A new jacket. I don't know how warm this jacket is - it does contain wool, but only a small amount. But if it's not warm enough for now, I can always wear it when winter turns into spring. The ears on the hood are detachable - but there's no way that I'm going to take them off!
Boots! It's been ages since I bought shoes or boots! And I really dig these ones. I think they go to both jeans and skirts!
And a handful of candy for the train ride home.
It was a very nice day - I got more good stuff than I expected to. My feet are a bit sore from all that walking around - but I don't care.
As often happens over Christmas, a spate of house break-ins has ruined the festive period for many people
Police have received more than 500 reports of break-ins and other theft in the 48 hours of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Families that celebrated Christmas away from their residences were the primary victims with many returning home to find their windows or doors broken open and items missing. It's mostly things like flat screen TVs, laptop computers, jewellery and cash that the thieves have been stealing.
I'll tell you what. People who steal from others are the lowest scum! If I ever meet a burglar in my house, I'll probably be so angry that I'll be able to knock him down in one hit!
So guys - if you're ever offered "cheap goods" from suspicious characters, then remember that someone has had their home broken into to make the "offer" possible. And say no.
I've seen on other communities that they have something they call the alphabet game. Basically you put up a post once a week, first post is with the letter A, you pick a word with A and write what ever pops into your head. Next post will be with the letter B and so on and so on.
I don't know how often I'll do these posts, but the thought is to do it once a week.
So - let me start with the letter A.
A is for Advertising!
When I went to school I had a dream about working in ad advertising bureau, making up advertisements for all kinds of products. I had a friend, Charlotte, who was just as much into advertising as me. We were so sure that we would make our own advertising company, stealing all the big clients from Ogilvy and Mather. I don't know why we didn't follow that dream after school was over. Perhaps it was the lack of creativity. Fact is that she's just finished as a nurse now, and I'm an office girl. Oh well... We're both satisfied with our jobs after all.
I still love to look at creative advertisements. That's why I have an entire album with cool ads. Go check it out - I'm sure you'll find something there that'll bring a smile on your face. Like this one, for instance:
A - is for Advertising. Clever advertising that doesn't annoy the crap out of you!
There are some lyrics that just hit right, and "Punk Rock Princess" by Something Corporate is one of them, if you ask me. Usually when I do music posts, I write a small bit about the band, a little about the song and/or the album, link to a song, and post the lyrics. It has worked fine so far, but I think this song needs a little extra.
Therefore I agreed with my personal music geek friend FlaRin that give him the opportunity to write a bit about the song and the album, that I've come to like so much. I did first hear about the band on his blog after all! Let me tell you that the Punk Rock Princess is on my HiFi often, and it can really make me bounce.
So - here ya go - lot's of details to you all, provided by a true music geek:
Thank you Pussy Cat - it's so nice to be with you again ) Well - The album 'Leaving Through the Window' was recorded (or released anyway) by 'Something Corporate' in 2002 - so, you know - it's getting on a bit now - and yet, still sounds incredibly fresh (to my ears anyway ). Plenty of bands out there *now* sound as though they grew up listening to this very album, and picking up on Andrew McMahon's vocal delivery...I haven't heard much else of SoCo's stuff other than this album - but they released a number of recordings, the most recent in 2004 - check them out on wikipedia here. So - to the song - Punk Rock Princess - a smart, knowing and kinda oblique love song, to my ears - and the lyric ...
'maybe when I've done with thinking, maybe you can think me whole, maybe when I've done with endings, this can begin...'
...is very effective, and as you say - this song is kinda like that, you know? Very effective!
Like the rest of the album, this is an intelligent, aware and astute piece of music- and as such, is pleasantly encouraging, considering the age of the musicians when it was recorded...Andrew McMahon being 16 when the band formed, 18 when they released their first album and 20 when the featured album/song was released.......but make no mistake - despite the obvious fact the the songwriter was at the time quite young (check out 'If You C Jordan' for boyish charm ) - and while retaining a kinda teenage feel, this is a nicely mature and accomplished recording ...benefitting from bloody good production and mixdown blow-jobs, by Jim Wirt and Tom Lord-Alge respectively And - incidentally - when I was researching this, I found a rather lovely live acoustic version of this song: Punk Rock Princess - acoustic version - which gives a quite different flavour i m o Very enjoyable
OK - well - if y'all like this song, then I'm pretty sure that you'll like the entire album - find it (and their others) on Amazon here Highly recommended - 7\10 on the FlaRin musicometer Something Corporate's home page is allegedly here - and this is very encouraging for us SoCo fans
B t w, Pussy Cat - also playing in my car today is 'Buck it up', from the 2004 album 'Fiji Baby' by excellent, although now sadly disbanded, New Zealand band Goodshirt - a rather cool youtube here
Thank you Pussy Cat -
And here are the lyrics to the Punk Rock Princess:
Maybe when the room is empty, Maybe when the bottle's full. Maybe when the door gets broke down, Love can break in.
Maybe when I'm done with thinking, Maybe you can think me whole. Maybe when I'm done with endings This can begin, this can begin This can begin.
If you could be my punk rock princess, I would be your garage band king. You can tell me why you just don't fit in And how you're gonna be something
Maybe when your hair gets darker, Maybe when your eyes get wide, Maybe when the walls are smaller There will be more space
Maybe when I'm not so tired, Maybe you could step inside Maybe when I look for things that I cant replace, I cant replace I cant replace.
If you could be my punk rock princess, I would be your garage band king. You could tell me why you just don't fit in, And how you're gonna be something.
If I could be your first real heartache, I would do it over again. If you could be my punk rock princess, I would be your heroine.
I never thought you'd last, I never dream you would. You watch your life go past, You wonder if you should.
If you should be my punk rock princess, So I could be your garage band king. You could tell me why you just don't fit in, And how you're gonna be something.
If I could be your first real heartache, I would do it over again. If you could be my punk rock princess, I would be your heroine.
Whoa! you know! You only burn my bridges Whoa! you know! You just cant let it sink in! You could be my heroine, You could be my heroine!
Here's another little gadget I found, which I thought would be perfect to a little guessing contest.
It was hard to get a good close up of it, so you'll get a few clues:
The grey round thing is a wheel, and there's another wheel on the other side of it. It contains a sharp knife.
If you know for sure what it is because you have one yourself, it would be cool to get the answer in a whisper, so the fun isn't spoiled after two minutes.
I went to see the new movie "Avatar", directed by James Cameron. It's a movie that has been mentioned a lot in the media here, and probably around the world too.
The movie is about Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), an ex-marine, who is bound to a wheel chair. He seeks to make a fresh start on the moon Pandora where his brother used to work. The moon has a military run mining colony. The business has brought humans into contact with the local natives, tall blue dudes, called Na'vi.
The Na'vi inhabit a part of the moon under which lies a large deposit of valuable minerals, and the humans are trying to get them to relocate. Colonel Quarich (Steven Lang) who runs the operation, asks Sully to go undercover as a Na'vi, to learn their secrets. If successful, Sully will get his legs back. (I never really understood how that should be possible, but hey, if they can turn a cripple into a 2 meter high blue dude, then why not grow a pair of new, functional legs... ) The magic of future science and 3-D effects give Sully a handsome genetically engineered Avatar body, and he embarks on his mission. Once on the inside however, his loyalties to the humans start to turn when he falls in love with the Na'vi princess Neytiri ( beautiful Zoe Saldana). The big question is if Sully is willing to fight on the blue side now or if he stays loyal to "his own kind"...
I must say that it's quite an impressive movie. Lot's of interesting creatures were living on the moon Pandora, many of them looks like if Cameron got his inspiration from the sea. There is for instance a huge mammal that looks like a hammer shark with legs, and another animal that looks like a gobble. I was amazed! Really amazed!
The story itself may be considered somewhat banal, but sometimes it's pretty nice to go the movies and just have some time pass and be entertained. The movie is long though, 2 hours and 40something minutes, and it's as if it has more than one ending. The final ending is.. too... I don't know, American, I guess. It was at least obvious to me what was going to happen.
I'm glad I got to see this in the cinema instead of waiting until it's out of DVD. It's a big film, and it deserves a big screen, that's for sure.
