Happy Easter!

, ,

It's easter!

I thought I would put a few fun facts up about the Easter:

-> The first Easter baskets were made to look like bird's nests.

-> The traditional act of painting eggs is called Pysanka.

-> The custom of giving eggs at Easter time has been traced back to Egyptians, Persians, Gauls, Greeks and Romans, to whom the egg was a symbol of life.

-> In medieval times a festival of egg-throwing was held in church, during which the priest would throw a hard-boiled egg to one of the choir boys. It was then tossed from one choir boy to the next and whoever held the egg when the clock struck 12 was the winner and retained the egg.

-> Easter is now celebrated (in the words of the Book of Common Prayer) on the first Sunday after the full moon which happens on or after March 21, the Spring Equinox.

-> The Guinness Book of Records holder for the largest Easter egg ever made is the Belgian chocolate producer Guylian who made the chocolate egg with at least 50.000 bars on behalf of the city of St. Niklaas. The egg measured 8.32 metres high. Twenty-six craftsman worked altogether 525 hours to build the egg. They needed 1950 kg of chocolates.

Happy Easter everybody!

Daylight savings time

, ,

Last night we lost an hour when we set our clocks one hour forward due to the phenomenon Daylight saving time.

I never liked setting clocks neither back nor forward. It takes my inner clock some time to adjust, and especially here in March where we loose an hour.

Anyway - I've been browsing around to find the effects of this, and it seems that the answer you get depends on where you look. Some say we save energy, some say we don't.

So I have set my clock like I'm supposed to. But I'm not liking it.

Druuna's ass

I don't know if any of you remember it, but a long time ago I mentioned Druuna. Druuna is a popular erotic science fiction and fantasy comic book character created by Italian cartoonist Paolo Eleuteri Serpieri. She is the main character, and has starred in eight volumes of the Morbus Gravis series between 1985 and 2003.

Her biggest asset is without any doubt her ass butt. Here's a picture of her, so you can judge for yourself:

Now, I've been waiting for a new Morbus Gravis album since 2003, and nothing happens. I have searched the internet to find a reason for this lack of new albums. Is Serpieri dead? Did he loose his ability to draw? Was the rights to Druuna bought by Disney?

No matter where I searched, I could not find the answer. Not until I stumbled about a piece of information, that I will now share with you faithful readers: Druuna has gained weight. It's true. Not just a pound or two, but a lot. So until she gets back to her normal shape, Serpieri will not make new albums with her.

You don't believe me?

Allright, check it out for yourselves:

Tintin is Danish

,

After decades of traveling the world in search of adventure with his faithful dog Snowy by his side, the Belgian cartoon character Tintin celebrated his 80th birthday on Saturday. Somewhere in a Copenhagen nursing home, the Danish inspiration for the character smiled with glee.

‘It sounds fun to be the cause of it, doesn’t it? It’s an enormous pleasure,’ Palle Huld says.

The 96-year-old former actor confirmed that Tintin’s creator, Georges Remi, better known by pen-name Hergé, was inspired by a trip undertaken by the Dane when he was just a teenager.

Huld was just 15 years old when he won a newspaper competition to take a trip around the world, marking the centenary of Jules Verne. The adventure, dubbed ‘Around the world in 44 days’, attracted much attention from international media and caught the eye of the Belgian cartoonist.

On his return, he was welcomed by a huge crowd at Copenhagen railway station, just like Tintin in his first adventure, but the Dane admits he has trouble remembering much of his earlier travels.

The first comic strip adventures of Tintin were published in Belgian newspaper Le Vingtieme Siecle in 1929 and went on to sell more than 200 million books featuring the mystery-solving teenager reporter.

Cat person or Dog person?

, ,

I can see on the sidebar that 38 persons have voted in my latest poll until now.

The question on the poll is: Are you a dog person or a cat person?

26 % answered dog person = 9.9 persons
55 % answered cat person = 20.9 persons
18 % answered neither = 6.8 persons

Now, look at this:
(Text: I miss the days when being a cat-person or a dog-person had something to do with having a pet.)
