Mantyhose...

, ,

I saw something on the 'Net that I've never seen before. The Mantyhose...

I was amazed! Pantyhose for men - is that a good idea or not?
If it's for some kind of medical reason, and it's under pants, then I'm okay with it.
And it's understandable that a truck driver wear support for comfort and circulation. But those are called compression tights. Not at all the same as mantyhose! I've also known a guy who wore nylons under his pants when he delivered newspapers on cold mornings, in order to stay warm. I feel perfectly fine about that too!
But wearing them because they feel good or look nice? And with shorts? Oh no - I don't think so. Mantyhose just doesn't strike me as very fancy.

Pantyhoses are for girls. Just like bras and g-strings.

That's what I think anyway! And that's why I was glad to read that Danish shops don't intend to import them, at least not right now!

The Bitter Pussy

, , ,

... and it's not pussy as in cat, I'm talking about.

I went to the theatre this weekend to see "The Bitter Pussy", which was a stand up show that skewered the difference between men and women, and pointed out all the many places where men and women are still not equal.

Ditte Hansen, a Danish actress, was alone on stage, and she did a great job. The show was based on a Swedish book that was published last year ("Bitterfittan"). It's about what often happens when two persons with each a career in front of them have a child, and what happens with equality. It's about politicians who make laws in lots of minor areas, but who thinks "equality needs to change with people's attitudes!!" It's about how "we have equality" despite the fact that women have wages that are generally 18 % below men's. It's all about equality between men and woman - and it was very well made.

Like she states:

"Behind every successful man stands a woman with a part time job. Behind every successful woman is a divorce!"

Too bad there were so few men in the theatre.

Men with make up

,

Don't be surprised if very soon men's toiletry kit contains not only shaving cream, deodorant and toothpaste, but concealer, eyeliner, oil-absorbing face powder and brow gel. It's more and more common that men wear make up, but it's really not a new phenomenon.

If we look at the music industry, men has been wearing make up for decades. Just to mention a few:

In the 70s the Sweet dressed up in glam and glitter, high heels, leather, long hair and make up. Not that they were mistaken for girls, but they did wear make up. That group called themselves the gods of glam rock, and that was pretty much true. Their greatest opponents on the musical stage, Slade, didn't follow in their footsteps as far as that goes.

More extreme is another 70s band, The Kiss, who wore their make up as masks. But even now, 35 years later, you see lead singer Paul Stanley with make up. Especially around the eyes.

David Bowie is another example of a dude who was wearing make up. Ziggy Stardust - need I say more?

Alice Cooper does always wear make up. Heavy make up. Alice Cooper pretty much invented the concept of the rock concert as theater. Thank you for that!

In the 80s Boy George confused people with his appearance. Was it a boy or a girl? Dramatic eyes with lots of kohl, eye shadow and drawn up eyebrows confused the image.
But he was not the only one.

Duran Duran, who stole a lot of teenage girls' hearts, did also use both eyeliner and lipstick. And girls found them cute and adorable, and sighed over their posters!

A-ha, with their giant hit, "Take on me", also grabbed a lot of teenage girls by the heart! I think it was mainly the lead singer, Morten Harket, who was the wanted one.

The 90s gave us Green Day. Their lead singer, Billie Joe Armstrong, wears a lot of eye make up.

We also got Marilyn Manson, who took his names from Marilyn Monroe and Charles Manson. Also a heavy make up user. :D

And what do we have today?

Tokio Hotel, an upcoming German band, whose lead singer looks very much like a girl.

An Café and other japanese rock bands, whose members all look like girls, and are proud of it. Yes - these five band members are all boys.

And the teenage girls? They just love them, and think they are cute.

What do you think the next decade will bring? :D

Men at work - Now in shorts!

, ,

The Danish Equality Board has ruled that employers cannot have different rules of attire for men and women in the workplace. Men must be allowed to go to work in shorts, if women are permitted to do so.

The board says that companies who have special rules for men's clothing that include a ban on shorts, are contravening equality laws.

The Board ruling comes after hearing a case raised by the HK/Kommunal union in connection with one of its members who worked for Guldborgsund Council as a financial consultant in the summer of 2007.

The 36-year-old man turned up in shorts one day, but was told by his manager that his attire was unacceptable. He was given a written reprimand.

Women at Guldborgsund Council are permitted to wear shorts or skirts, but the man's employer felt that men in shorts was unprofessional and gave the feeling of relaxation and vacation.

The Board, however, disagreed. Judges said the differential treatment of men and women is in clear contravention of gender equality laws.

So come on guys! Wear shorts and skirts at work!

All I want for Christmas

,

Dear Santa,

Naked Man Wanted!

If you are male, dark haired, minimum 180 cm tall, between 30 and 35 of age, and don't have a problem with being naked before other people, then a Catfianian theatre might have a job for you. Acting skills are not necessary!

The play is called "Pieta", and is about a woman who wakes up in a hotel bed. Next to her lies a dead, naked man. The play is a monologue, where the woman tells about her life. So all you need to do is lay there and be dead and naked.

The theatre has had some men in for rehearsal, but when they found out that there are times in the play where they are dragged out of the bed, they changed their minds, and didn't want the job anyway.

The pay is 13.25Eur an hour. The rehearsals are already started, so hurry up!

Cult - or not?

, ,

I know that sex sells, at least that's what I have heard. It is quite often that companies try to sell their products by letting a scantily dressed girl show up with the product in the ads.

I am tired of women being pictured as sexual objects only - if we have to have all that nudity in the ads, at least have the decency to bring some half naked men as well, to keep the balance so to speak. But no. That is apparently not ok.

Let me give you an example.

This alcoholic energizing drink Cult is marketing their brand by showing naked girls in their ads. The first one they brought was this one. A naked girl, holding a bottle of the energizer between her breasts. Not much is left to imagination here.

These posters hang everywhere for a period of time, and feminists all over the country wrote angry readers' letters and feature articles, but the posters stayed.

The next ad were being put up, namely almost the same ad, but this time it was a man holding the bottle.

And guess what. This ad was banned by the consumers' ombudsman because it was too sexy. So it was taken down - I don't remember if the poster was put up for a few days, or if he stopped it before it got up, but fact is that it's apparently okay to show a pair of perky breasts, but not a male chest and a six-pack.

It's weird because the consumer's ombudsman has explicit rules for when you advertise in public places. The main reason for that is that kids - the little unspoiled tiny tots - are to be spared. The rules says, that "Kids and youngsters are being presented with advertisements that are aimed at adults. Those who advertise ought to take that into their conciderations so youngsters aren't being exposed to improper situations, for instance related to violence or sex."

That rule means that you should avoid sexualized ads in places open to the public, where kids, youngsters and other sensitive souls go about. So, how does that add up? Answer is that it doesn't.

I'll end this post by showing you a (slightly edited) ad from the same company:
