Cute little Lion cubs

, ,

The last time I went to the Zoo it was a grey day. That means that some animals are more active than they usually are. I mean - if you go there on a warm summer day, you can be sure that the lions aren't doing anything but sleeping.

But look at these cute attentive lion cubs:

This was quite funny. I haven't seen them paying any attention to the audience before:

And the last pic for today:

It was a nice day at the Zoo - I'll post more pics later!

Have a great weekend!

Taking a Break ~ Going to the Zoo

,

It feels as if it's been ages since I went to the Zoo. I do have a season ticket because I see the Zoo as an oasis in the middle of a big city.

So anyway - I needed a little break - so I grabbed my camera gear and my bicycle and went there.

Long time ago I promised Cois to take a photo or two of the wolves - and I forgot. Sorry wolfieboy, my bad. Here's to make it up to you:

The wolves were very active that morning. It was a cold, grey, but dry morning, the time of day where many of the animals are more active than during the day.

This wolfie even took a bath in the yucky green water:

While he was in the water, the others stood on the "shore", whimpering.

Then I passed the red pandas. They are so cute!

I promised Angeliki a picture of the elephants. There wasn't many of them out this early, but I caught an early bird. :D I hope you like it.

No visit to the Zoo without saying hi to the tigers! They had a baby tiger!

Unfortunately it wasn't out for long, because the male tiger was about to be fed. And I think they take the cub out when he eats in order not to risk any kinds of "accidents"...

I had planned to visit the tropical Zoo too, to take some photos of the butterflies, but honestly, I'd rather go home, so I did. I think I might take a short tour there next week.

I hope you enjoyed the tour to the Zoo just as much as I did.

Just playing with a couple of photos

I was bored the other day.

Extremely bored.

So I played a bit with a couple of photos in Photoshop. Here's the result:

And so the evening went.

Have a fantastic Sunday!

Ferris Wheel in Copenhagen

, ,

Copenhagen's most recognisable symbol has long been the Little Mermaid. But the diminutive sculpture on Copenhagen's waterfront might need to begin sharing the stage with a new attraction, namely a 50 metres high ferris wheel placed in central Copenhagen.

I was taking a walk the other day - and as I headed home I passed the Ferris wheel.

As I approached it I was thinking to myself that it would be cool to take a tour in it. I decided that if there wasn't much of a queue I would give it a shot.

I was lucky. There wasn't any queue at all, so I bought a ticket and waited for the wheel to stop so I could get on board. I wasn't prepared to go there camera-wise - I only had my small camera with me - but hey - take a look - it does at least give you an impression of the view over my beloved city.

It was a clear, beautiful day - so it was even possible to see all the way to Sweden. (*sends Rose a friendly thought*)

It's always fun to see things from a different perspective once in a while.

All in all it was a great experience. It was a bit expensive though, 75 DKK (about 10 Eur) for a tour that lasted about 15 minutes - 3 rounds in the wheel. But hey - I'd gladly do it again. :D

The wheel is there until October. But the company who built it says that they consider to build a ferris wheel permanently.

Equinox ~ It's finally spring!!

, , ,

An Equinox occurs twice a year, when the tilt of the Earth's axis is inclined neither away from nor towards the Sun, the Sun being vertically above a point on the Equator.

The name is derived from the Latin aequus (equal) and nox (night), because around the Equinox, the night and day are approximately equally long.

In 2009 the Vernal equinox is today, the 20th of March. So today is officially the first day of spring.

I know I will enjoy it. I hope you will too!

Dark Side of the Moon

,

I don't know how many times I've tried to take pictures of the moon, but it's many! The photos have never turned out the way I wanted, so I kind of gave up on it.

But the other day, the moon stood bright and full, just outside my window. I just had to try again. I mounted the camera on the tripod and took a gazillion shots.

Judge for yourself - was it worth the effort?

The lunatic is on the grass
The lunatic is on the grass
Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs
Got to keep the loonies on the path.

The lunatic is in the hall
The lunatics are in my hall
The paper holds their folded faces to the floor
And every day the paper boy brings more.

And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forbodings too
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.

The lunatic is in my head
The lunatic is in my head
You raise the blade, you make the change
You re-arrange me 'till I'm sane.

You lock the door
And throw away the key
There's someone in my head but it's not me

And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.

The Great Wall of Copenhagen

, ,

Once upon a time, many years ago, Copenhagen was surrounded by a wall. It was there to keep enemies out, and to control who got into the city.

It was Bishop Absalon who had the wall built back in year 1167-1171. The Wends attacked the city in 1259; they were lead by prince Jaromar. His warriors robbed, raped and set the city on fire. They even destroyed Absalon's castle.

Here is a little piece of ruin of Copenhagen city wall, it is called Jarmer's Tower, and it is situated on Jarmer's Square (Jarmers Plads) - yes - the square is named after the prince who lead the attack on the city.

Right in front of the bit of wall, there is a statue by an artist by the name of Auguste-Nicolas Cain. The statue is of a lion and a lionesse who fight over a wild hog. The statue was originally placed in a park, but the city needed the space, so now it's basically placed in the middle of a pavement.
I know that Copenhagen have asked their citizens for suggestions of a better place for the statue, but as far as I know nobody has come up with a better location for the lions.

The Lion and the Lionesse

, ,

I just thought I wanted to share a couple of shots of the lions, I took last time I was in the Zoo.

Here's the male lion, Oleg. He came to Copenhagen Zoo in July 2003, after two lionesses had killed the old male lion. Oleg was five years old when he arrived, and he managed to earn the female lions' respect. He is now the father of many lion cubs, and the new life makes the lion cage worth a visit.

The staff passed the cage with two Camels, that's why this beauty of a lioness is so attentive!

A New Baby Sister

I have been thinking about expanding my little family with a baby sister. My baby girl has been alone for a while now, and is big enough to handle the extra member.

But expanding like that takes planning. When is the right time? Is it the right thing to do at all? How do you avoid jealousy and stuff like that?

Okay - I took a deep breath - and decided that the time was right. It took a lot of thinking and considering, a lot of talks with various men, and last, but not least, counting of my spare money to see if I could afford it.

Now the baby sister is here. You want to see her? Here she is:

She's pretty, isn't she?

And here's a picture of her from another angle:

She is a Canon (obviously, since her big sister is a Canon), she is a Ixus 80 IS. She will not replace her big sister, but only the camera in my mobile phone. And I am sure she'll do a great job. She is small, takes much better pictures than my mobile, and she wasn't too expensive. She could never be my only camera, she is way too simple and has way too few possibilities for manual settings, but for the "hey, there's something funny for my blog"-photos she will be perfect. Just wait and see.

I'm out, trying if she lives up to my expectations!

Seagulls and Christmas Day

,

Brrr, it's cold outside, close to zero degrees Celcius (32F). It's the last day of Christmas for me, the day after Christmas Day. Some people say that Christmas ends on the day of the holy three kings, which is January 6th, but that's way too long for me. So today I will get rid of all the Christmas stuff in my house and go to this years last Christmas dinner.

Yesterday I took a long walk. I needed the fresh air, even though it was freezing cold.

I brought my camera, and snapped a photo or two of a gull.

Here is it, sitting and watching me to see if I am up to something bad:

And then it decided that I got too close, and flew off, and landed in the water.

I like them better from a distance anyway. :D
