Women, Theatre, Review, Men
... and it's not pussy as in cat, I'm talking about.

I went to the theatre this weekend to see "The Bitter Pussy", which was a stand up show that skewered the difference between men and women, and pointed out all the many places where men and women are still not equal.
Ditte Hansen, a Danish actress, was alone on stage, and she did a great job. The show was based on a Swedish book that was published last year ("Bitterfittan"). It's about what often happens when two persons with each a career in front of them have a child, and what happens with equality. It's about politicians who make laws in lots of minor areas, but who thinks "equality needs to change with people's attitudes!!" It's about how "we have equality" despite the fact that women have wages that are generally 18 % below men's. It's all about equality between men and woman - and it was very well made.
Like she states:
"Behind every successful man stands a woman with a part time job. Behind every successful woman is a divorce!"
Too bad there were so few men in the theatre.

Theatre, Review
I went to the theatre this Saturday to see a classic, namely the Jungle Book. This version is not at all like the cute Disney version though. This is a piece where things take place in the city - "it's a jungle out there"!

The story is the same as we know: Boy gets adopted by wolves, he grows up among jungle animals, and he fights an inner fight to understand who he is.
I loved the characters in the play. Bagheera, the black panther, was played by a fabulous drag queen, all in black leather and thigh high boots. Balloo, the bear, was a boxing trainer. Akela, the leader of the wolves, was dressed out in dreadlocks and Che Guevara cap. Shere Khan, the dangerous tiger, was a street fighter. Kaa, the sneaky snake, was a blonde girl dressed as Uma Thurman in Kill Bill. The wolf gang was played by a bunch of fantastic street dancers.
Here's a
link to the trailer from the play. It's in Danish and there is no subtitles, but it may give you an idea of how it was.

(Sorry phonies, it wasn't on tinytube.

)
It was a fantastic play! I loved every second of it!
