#¤%&$£ Burglars

,

As often happens over Christmas, a spate of house break-ins has ruined the festive period for many people

Police have received more than 500 reports of break-ins and other theft in the 48 hours of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Families that celebrated Christmas away from their residences were the primary victims with many returning home to find their windows or doors broken open and items missing. It's mostly things like flat screen TVs, laptop computers, jewellery and cash that the thieves have been stealing.

I'll tell you what. People who steal from others are the lowest scum! If I ever meet a burglar in my house, I'll probably be so angry that I'll be able to knock him down in one hit!

So guys - if you're ever offered "cheap goods" from suspicious characters, then remember that someone has had their home broken into to make the "offer" possible. And say no.

stealing is for assholes. atleast in my opinion.

Dacotah Tuesday, December 29, 2009 9:57:49 AM

I will never understand why people steal.
irked

Spaggyj Tuesday, December 29, 2009 10:02:00 AM

I've never fallen for cheap goods. I know damn well they're most likely ill-gotten.
Theft is such a petty crime...

Bud McDonnellfammcdon Tuesday, December 29, 2009 10:20:57 AM

I got nothing worth stealing so I guess I'm safe. But, seeing as I got insurance on this crappy phone, they would be doing me a favor by thieving it.

r♡serose-marie Tuesday, December 29, 2009 12:10:51 PM

Wow, 500 reported break-ins during 48 hours?! Was that in Denmark?

Freya RedFreya Tuesday, December 29, 2009 2:34:30 PM

It is made worse when they ransack the house, smashing up people`s things. irked

KittyliciousZaphira Tuesday, December 29, 2009 4:46:07 PM

@ Fredric ~ I couldn't agree more!

@ Carol ~ Me neither. I guess it's the "easy money" that does it. irked

@ Little Carrot ~ (p) I just wish that more people would say no to stolen things, so it wouldn't be so easy to get rid of the stolen goods.

@ Bud ~ Problem is that the thieves don't know that you haven't got anything worth stealing until they've already broken into your house. irked

@ Rose ~ Yes, that was in Denmark. The police says that they will try to solve more of those kinds of crimes, but... well... I just hope they mean it and that they're able to.

@ Freya ~ You're right, but seriously, to come home to find that some strangers have been into your house, opening all your drawers, looked at everything you've got... that is so barrier-breaking!

Spaggyj Tuesday, December 29, 2009 5:16:35 PM

Yeah, I agree there. But most people don't care as long as it helps them.

Dark FurieFurie Tuesday, December 29, 2009 5:28:30 PM

That's pretty bad but it always happens like that around Christmas. Over here in Furtopia, we have a fitting punishment set up though.

KittyliciousZaphira Tuesday, December 29, 2009 5:43:58 PM

@ Kimmie ~ You're right, obviously. Perhaps those people will change their opinion about buying stolen goods the first time they have their home broken into as well.

@ Mik ~ That sounds like a suitable punishment indeed! Problem is that so few of the burglars here are caught.

Dacotah Tuesday, December 29, 2009 6:15:24 PM

"People who steal from others are the lowest scum!" Well second lowest scum to me, the lowest scum to me is child molesters.

KittyliciousZaphira Tuesday, December 29, 2009 6:17:31 PM

They're scum too. I don't make lists of which scum is worst - they're just scum to me.

Dacotah Tuesday, December 29, 2009 6:18:52 PM

True

Mad Scientist (عادل)qlue Sunday, January 3, 2010 6:05:58 AM

In South Africa, Burglars are often murderers too!! irked.
And usually, they know exactly what you've got and where you keep it! scared.

KittyliciousZaphira Sunday, January 3, 2010 7:00:27 AM

Luckily that's not the case here. Here in the middle of the city, the burglars are often drug abusers who need money for their drugs. But we have seen a raise in burglaries committed by people from countries in the Eastern Europe. irked

FlaRin Tuesday, January 5, 2010 2:29:39 AM

Boxing day is burglary day, around and about my *current* location - lots of cruisin' crooks come out on a day trip from the shittier suburbs and loot the presents from houses whose occupants are out at *someone else's* house having lunch. Happens a lot. <grrr> Had them check out my place early last week (forgot to mention it) - but Dogs saw them off - they won't be back again smile I also keep a baseball bat handy, should an explanation be required to an unwelcome visitor smile

KittyliciousZaphira Tuesday, January 5, 2010 6:42:12 AM

A baseball bat and a couple of barking and biting dogs, that sounds like a pretty good idea. Is it common that they "go in" when there's people in the house? Here, they *usually* only break in if the house is empty. (Usually, because it does happen that there's people in the house when they break in). irked

FlaRin Tuesday, January 5, 2010 8:57:55 AM

Oh - no - generally, they kinda drive up and if there's anyone in they say something like "Is Aroha around??" and of course, pretend they have the wrong address & drive off. If there's no one in, they clean up. They can be *very* bold too - just down the road (back towards the bridge & that park), they drove up to the house with a truck and just stole *everything* - furniture, appliances, rolled up the mats - everything. Very cheeky. Bastards. <snarls>

KittyliciousZaphira Tuesday, January 5, 2010 11:47:21 AM

I hate burglars! mad

Stealing everything... irked *Imagines what hell it must be to come home to a total empty house*

Dark FurieFurie Tuesday, January 5, 2010 12:30:17 PM

Been there, done that. irked An ex of mine didn't take well to being split up with.

KittyliciousZaphira Tuesday, January 5, 2010 1:28:11 PM

so she took all the stuff and furniture? bigeyes

Good that she's your ex! mad

Dark FurieFurie Tuesday, January 5, 2010 3:01:20 PM

And neatly arranged it in a small but flaming pile in the garden, including my mint condition first edition copy of The Hobbit and many comic books worth a fortune together. cry It did help me start making the move from video to DVD though. up From that moment on I was much more careful with loaning my keys to girls so they can "grab something they'd left at my place".

On the subject of burglars, they aren't like that over here. Here they'll take a few things they can sell then vandalize the rest, spray painting the walls and possibly crapping in your bed and bath. Luckily I've never had that happen, but I don't know which would be worse to be honest.

KittyliciousZaphira Tuesday, January 5, 2010 3:30:54 PM

Aw come on, what a waste of time and efforts over a guy that doesn't want you! *rolls eyes dramatically*

Dark FurieFurie Tuesday, January 5, 2010 4:58:06 PM

Either I'm a bad breaker-upper, or I always choose the wrong moment, or...
*slowly turns head to the right to check Kim isn't reading this post then, just as slowly, turns back*
...I just attract crazy women. awww

Ahahahaha... that's hilarious!

The princess will soon be mine! devil

Dark FurieFurie Tuesday, January 5, 2010 6:33:17 PM

Never! I wont ever let her go. mad

Cleanclean Wednesday, January 13, 2010 10:56:58 AM

I had the same sort of situation to Flarin a year or so ago (though without the dogs wink ):

Big pounding on the door, someone yelling a little too loudly (in case there were neighbours watching) for 'John' to let them in. When I opened the main door, there one of them stood ... with the screen door open. He asked for 'John', who, of course, doesn't live here, then proceeded to give me some line about a friend telling them 'John' lived here.

Instead of playing the game, I 'asked' him about breaking my screen door. Y'see, it was locked (I always lock it). And now it wasn't.

Suffice to say, I chased 'em up the street. And I mean a couple of blocks before I ran out of puff (not bad for someone who smoked for 18 years). Didn't catch 'em (hey, I'm nearly 40), but I haven't seem 'em since ... devil lol

I wouldn't normally have reacted so strongly, but as they ran off, one of 'em threatened to get some gang or other to kill me because he seemed offended by my accusing him of breaking my screen door open. Poor delicate little flower. lol

KittyliciousZaphira Wednesday, January 13, 2010 6:17:38 PM

I'm glad you got to chase them off! yes Way to go, David! devil

Cleanclean Wednesday, January 13, 2010 9:39:08 PM

smile

Although I don't know what I would've done with them if I'd caught 'em ... I mean, my freezer was already full ... :whsitle: wink

theoddbod Wednesday, January 13, 2010 11:06:45 PM

I'm sure Sophie would have been quite happy to take them off your hands left

KittyliciousZaphira Thursday, January 14, 2010 5:05:00 AM

My dad did the same thing once, even though he was in his car doing it. And he hadn't even caught the guy in the act, but he was *pretty* sure that it was him (with good reason, because he was a bully). The street became a much nicer place after that. yes

Cleanclean Thursday, January 14, 2010 9:08:48 AM

Mart,

She's so helpful. lol

Kitty,

Nice one by your dad! Sometimes bullies need a good kick up the ass (as opposed to all the softly, softly meet-and-talk-with-your-victim crap they have nowadays).

KittyliciousZaphira Thursday, January 14, 2010 7:42:28 PM

It *was* a pretty tough neighbourhood and I guess my dad just have had enough of the bullying and breaking in stuff. Anger makes people do the weirdest things, you know. But yes, it was cool too. up

Mad Scientist (عادل)qlue Friday, January 15, 2010 10:32:05 PM

One of the common 'tricks' that thieves pull here in South Africa is 'home invasions'. They cruise around a well-to-do neighbourhood untill the find a party in progress. Them they barge in waving automatic assault rifles and whatever other fire power they have and relieve the guests of their possessions. Then, if you're lucky, they tie everyone up and leave, usually with a few of the guest's luxury vehicles. scaredawww.

KittyliciousZaphira Saturday, January 16, 2010 7:13:01 AM

Are any of these crimes ever solved? Because break ins here are rarely solved, which is bloody annoying IMO.

Mad Scientist (عادل)qlue Saturday, January 16, 2010 11:38:38 AM

I've got a jail full of offenders that suggests that some crimes do get solved. But don't ask me what percent. awww.

KittyliciousZaphira Saturday, January 16, 2010 1:30:12 PM

Oh okay, it's just that some crimes seem to go more unsolved than others. left

Dark FurieFurie Saturday, January 16, 2010 8:00:46 PM

That's what Batman is for. up

KittyliciousZaphira Saturday, January 16, 2010 9:58:20 PM

Which reminds me : I just re-watched the Dark Knight. It's still a bloody good movie! yes

Cleanclean Monday, January 18, 2010 2:51:38 AM

"Let me get this straight: You think that your client, one of the wealthiest, most powerful men in the world, is secretly a vigilante who spends his nights beating criminals to a pulp with his bare hands. And your plan is to blackmail this person? Good luck".

KittyliciousZaphira Monday, January 18, 2010 6:31:42 AM

lol I loved that scene! I actually watched it twice! bigsmile

fredricsolstad Monday, January 18, 2010 6:48:55 AM

It is indeed a lovely scene bigsmile

Cleanclean Monday, January 18, 2010 10:07:14 AM

"Wanna know how I got these scars?"

Dark FurieFurie Monday, January 18, 2010 11:22:40 AM

Fantastic film. Third best Batman ever and best Joker.

KittyliciousZaphira Monday, January 18, 2010 9:06:44 PM

I dunno... I kinda liked Jack Nicholson better as the Joker!

Cleanclean Monday, January 18, 2010 10:56:08 PM

What are the best Batman films, Mik?

theoddbod Monday, January 18, 2010 11:12:07 PM

I actually preferred Batman Begins to The Dark Knight.

Dark FurieFurie Tuesday, January 19, 2010 1:48:09 AM

Couldn't tell you the films, but the best actors playing Batman are equally Adam West and Michael Keaton, for their humorous/serious portrayals. Due to the way comic books were back then and flagging sales of the title, many believe that without West's portrayal of Batman proving so popular that the book would have been cancelled. As for Keaton, for me he just fit the role well, bringing a lot of under the surface acting to the mix that helped show just how troubled Bruce himself is.

Nicholson was awesome as the Joker in his traditional role. Mark Hamill is a very close second, giving a better performance but only voice acting him in cartoons and games so it's all in the voice, and I doubt he'd do well fully acting the role. Ledger had none of the lore to read up on and base his reimagined Joker on and gave a mesmerising performance of a character who more fit the role the Joker is meant to play in the mythology.

KittyliciousZaphira Tuesday, January 19, 2010 5:16:30 AM

Thank you so much for mentioning Michael Keaton. I absolutely loved him as Batman. And in Beetlejuice. And in... <etc etc> happy
