Taking a Break ~ Going to the Zoo

,

It feels as if it's been ages since I went to the Zoo. I do have a season ticket because I see the Zoo as an oasis in the middle of a big city.

So anyway - I needed a little break - so I grabbed my camera gear and my bicycle and went there.

Long time ago I promised Cois to take a photo or two of the wolves - and I forgot. Sorry wolfieboy, my bad. Here's to make it up to you:

The wolves were very active that morning. It was a cold, grey, but dry morning, the time of day where many of the animals are more active than during the day.

This wolfie even took a bath in the yucky green water:

While he was in the water, the others stood on the "shore", whimpering.

Then I passed the red pandas. They are so cute!

I promised Angeliki a picture of the elephants. There wasn't many of them out this early, but I caught an early bird. :D I hope you like it.

No visit to the Zoo without saying hi to the tigers! They had a baby tiger!

Unfortunately it wasn't out for long, because the male tiger was about to be fed. And I think they take the cub out when he eats in order not to risk any kinds of "accidents"...

I had planned to visit the tropical Zoo too, to take some photos of the butterflies, but honestly, I'd rather go home, so I did. I think I might take a short tour there next week.

I hope you enjoyed the tour to the Zoo just as much as I did.

Yes I enjoyed the tour but not as much as if I was with you in person for the tour. :D
Great photos.

Carol 1. November 2009, 06:52

:sst: I've never heard of the red panda before. Interesting looking.
Love the baby Tiger. :D

Kitty 1. November 2009, 06:56

Thank you Carol. If you should ever visit Copenhagen, I'd love to take you for a walk there!

Carol 1. November 2009, 06:59

You are welcome Kitty. Thank you.

Gavin Sheedy 1. November 2009, 07:42

You should show the snake pits, too. I couldn't believe how accessible they were. Great zoo!

Kitty 1. November 2009, 07:44

I haven't taken any snake photos recently, but since I've planned to visit the tropical Zoo later this week, I'll see if I can snap one or two by then.

Awesome photos (again)!

(The elephant was smiling for you!)

Kimmie 1. November 2009, 09:10

Excellent photos, as usual. I love red pandas, they're so unusual :D . The shot of the swimming wolf is really awesome

You know the other name for them too?

Kitty 1. November 2009, 09:52

@ David ~ Thank you. The elephant was actually chewing its breakfast. :D

@ Kimmie ~ Thanks a lot! I've never seen any of the wolves swimming in the water before - and the pack of whimpering wolves on the shore was really weird. P:

@ Rob ~ Umm... I've heard some people calling them Kattebjørne (catbears) - is that the name you're thinking of?

Robert 1. November 2009, 10:51

No, what I'm thinking of is more fiery...

Kitty 1. November 2009, 10:54

It's the infamous Firefox!

Kitty 1. November 2009, 11:54

@ Angeliki ~ I'm glad you enjoyed!
May your November be a happy one too!

@ Jurjen ~ Thanks a bunch!
The baby tiger was adorable, but I only got two pictures of it, since the male tiger was to have his breakfast. awww

The Dark Furie 1. November 2009, 12:01

Puppy!

Kitty 1. November 2009, 12:11

He's even more smelly after a bath in that! :left:

Jurjen 1. November 2009, 12:27

Well it sounds like a good excuse to go back to the tigers as well when you visit again soon!

Mit 1. November 2009, 14:56

Nice pictures, Zap

Gavin Sheedy 1. November 2009, 15:22

Visit your relatives, to continue Jekav's sentiment

der Wandersmann 1. November 2009, 15:31

When I was a kid, those red pandas were called "lesser pandas". I'm not sure the name is still used.

The wolf (probably the alpha male) probably liked the smell of the scummy water. Dogs and wolves have a tendency to treat rich organic odors the way we treat music or perfume.

I'm sure they think we're crazy for taking showers every day and washing off all our lovely odors ... how can they tell where we've been and what we've done?

Gavin Sheedy 1. November 2009, 15:38

They do that to mask their scent so that their prey doesn't smell them coming. Sometimes they use excrement. :frown: Dogs okay, cats better!

Kitty 1. November 2009, 17:48

@ Jurjen ~ The tigers are on my "to visit"-list every time I go there, that's for sure.

@ Mit ~ Thank you so much.

@ Gavin ~ Exactly, I just love watching them when they're active.

@ dW ~ I think you're right that the wolf was the alpha male, he did look a little bit bigger than the ones on the shore.

RedFreya 1. November 2009, 18:01

Yes "Cats Rule"! Did you see a little girl with a red hood and cloak, carrying a basket for her grandmother, as you passed the wolves? Also shouldn`t the tiger be eating Kellogg`s Frosties

Kitty 1. November 2009, 18:03

No, there weren't any girls with red hoods there. :left:
And real tigers prefer breakfast with less sugar than Frosties - them teeth are gonna last all life, you know. P:

RedFreya 1. November 2009, 18:09

There`s nothing worse than a tiger suffering a "sugar rush" :yikes:

Bud McDonnell 1. November 2009, 18:23

Nice pics. I can't remember the last time I went to the Philadelphia Zoo. Must take the munchkins when they get here.

Kitty 1. November 2009, 18:25

Thank you. I visit my Zoo regularly - and when I travel I usually visit the local Zoo where I am.

Gavin Sheedy 1. November 2009, 18:34

If you ever find yourself here, I'll take you to Borås djurpark; it's not in Göteborg, but it's only an hour away. Any excudse! :D

(And you have free accomodation, if you dare  )

Bud McDonnell 1. November 2009, 18:35

The only thing I remember about the Philly Zoo is that it is huge. Need 2 days to do it proper.

Kitty 1. November 2009, 18:43

@ Gavin ~ Cool! I'll let you know if and when I'm around that area. About the accommodation - I'm not so sure about that. You did mention that you're strange.

@ Bud ~ Then it's a good thing that they'll stay for good = lots of time to explore the Zoo properly.

Gavin Sheedy 1. November 2009, 18:45

 And I can't deny it.

Bud McDonnell 1. November 2009, 19:23

Yup. Anything for the kiddos. Even if I do say so myself, I'm a  Dad.

r♡se 1. November 2009, 19:48

Awww, nice pictures ! I wonder what the bathing wolf is thinking...

Gavin Sheedy 1. November 2009, 19:49

Gonna get that crocodile...

Marcus 1. November 2009, 20:42

Very cool pictures, Zaph! I haven't been to the zoo in ages.

Kitty 1. November 2009, 21:16

Thanks Rose & Marcus.

Stardancer 2. November 2009, 02:01

Great photos, Kitty!

Kitty 2. November 2009, 04:33

Thank you Star.

Mina 4. November 2009, 02:04

 Was there any other animals besides wolves you posted??

I missed em... awww

Kitty 4. November 2009, 05:16

umm, you mean except for the elephant, the red pandas and the tigers? P:
Yes, but I didn't take all the tour round the Zoo that day. I visited the polar bears, which is one of my favourite animals in the zoo. I saw the leopard shortly, lots of birds, the sealions and the monkeys. I'll go there again later this week, to get some butterfly pics.

shinnie wijaya 4. November 2009, 05:30

great photos,i love it,thanks for sharing,but where's the lion? (,")

Kitty 4. November 2009, 05:34

Hi shinniewijaya and welcome to my blog.
The lions were the first animals I saw that day, but they were relaxing in the furthest corner, and therefore no pics. Maybe next time.

shinnie wijaya 4. November 2009, 08:39

And mostly wolves. :left:

der Wandersmann 5. November 2009, 03:25

Two Siberian tiger cubs just put out for people to see at our zoo ... cute and scruffy-looking, as all Siberians are until they're older.

Kitty 5. November 2009, 06:57

@ Minnie ~ Stop gazing at the silly wolves - check out the tigers instead, will ya! P:

@ dW ~ Tiger cubs are sooooo adorable! And yes, cute!
