Opera Error Console Killer v1.0

, , , , , ,

Opera Error Console Killer, as the name implies, automatically closes the Error Console in Opera. This software exists because the Error Console is quite annoying for most users, and currently there is no way to disable it.

Usage Notes:

• You can use OECK in either of these two ways:

1) Copy OECK to your Opera folder. When you launch it from there it'll also launch Opera (if its not already running). When the Error Console appears, OECK will instantly close it (within milliseconds). When you close Opera, OECK will also exit. For ease of use, I recommend changing your Opera shortcut(s) to point to oeck.exe.

2) If OECK is launched from any folder other than Opera's folder, it'll run in the background, waiting to close Opera's Error Console. It'll continue to stay in the background even if Opera is closed. The only way to terminate OECK in this case is by using a task manager. For ease of use, I recommend adding OECK to your startup.

• If you want to open the error console while OECK is active, just press Ctrl + Shift.

Just uploaded the file to http://www.virustotal.com/ and 3 of 32 scanners think there's something wrong with the file. It could be false-positives, but I thought I'd let you know:

I encrypted it and compressed with UPX, a free/open source program. It's a well known fact that a few antivirus programs falsley detect UPX as a possible malware, since a lot of malware use UPX.

Send the program to various anti-virus software companies (especially those whos' software gave false positives) so that they can add it to their database as safe.

haavard says that the Error console can be disabled in Kestrel. See http://my.opera.com/community/forums/findpost.pl?id=2134130.

March 17 2008 OPERA console error OECK.zip

I was having a real problem with the error console popping up every few mins

I went to Tools..Pref etc and unchecked console error but it had NO effect

Then I came here thru search and downloaded the zip file OECK.zip
opened the file and

BINGO it works well. There's just a fraction of a second where the console error shows but it then disappears as the zip file works.

great and thanks to whomever
