Flagstaff condos Make Time To Visit Crater Lake Oregon For Natural Beauty!

One of the prettiest lakes you will ever visit is Crater Lake Oregon. This deep lake is located in the center of a collapsed inactive volcano.
Crater Lake is located in Southern Oregon, just north of the California border and one hundred miles inland from the Pacific Ocean. The lake is inside a caldera, a volcanic basin. That basin was created over 7700 years ago after the last eruption of Mt. Mazama.
Due to its high elevation and the moisture dropped from the air as it cools over the Cascade mountain range, Crater Lake receives over 500 inches of snow each year. The snow replaces any water that evaporates from the lake which has no inlets or outlets. These work in concert to keep the lake depth at the same depth below the rim at most of the time.
The Lake ranks number seven in depth in the world and first in the U. S. It is 1943 feet deep.
Although it is possible to drive around the entire rim of the lake during the summer, once the snow starts, usually in October, North Rim Drive gets closed for the winter season and sometimes does not open again until mid June. Most of the time it is possible to reach South Rim village as the roads are plowed during the winter. If there is snow falling, it may be difficult to make the drive even to the Village where the gift shop and Crater Lake Lodge are located.
There is a hiking trail from the rim to the lake surface, but it is located on North Rim drive so it is closed during the winter months. If you hike to the lake surface, you can sometimes take a boat ride around the lake and visit Wizard Island.
Campgrounds are available in the Park during the summer months. Remember that night time temperatures can be very cold, even during the summer. You will want to have plenty of warm clothes and bedding to stay warm when camping. There are several state campgrounds that are also near Crater Lake. Diamond Lake and Stewart State park both offer camping, boating and fishing as well as camping.
It is always best to call ahead before planning a visit to the National Park. Weather in the valley floors may be in the 90s but at the Lake, there may still be snow on the ground in the summer. During the winter, even a mild day at the valley floor level can be a severe winter day near the lake. Many families have started the drive from one of the valleys to the lake and had to turn back because they did not have chains or other traction devices to make the climb to Crater Lake.
If you are driving to Crater Lake from Medford, you will want to take the Highway 62 exit (Exit 30) off of I-5. There are several hotels located around this exit, with newer ones just North along Biddle Road near the airport. Medford has recently had several newer hotels built that offer very nice accommodations. These hotels are located around the south freeway interchange at Exit 27.
