The city which was builded again and again

I believe I'm not capable of writing a well post enough about Berlin. It's a beautiful city with lovely old buildings which rebuilded after World War II and new modern tower blocks in Potsdam Square (Potsdamer Platz). I had pity when I saw covered bullet holes on the buildings and the Berlin wall left behind. I can't say that I perceived how people suffered but I felt the sorrow of the city caused by Hitler and the seperation.
I went there with a turkish trainee in Bonn. We stayed in Meininger Hostel and we were very happy with it, they have very good service and comfortable rooms and it's cheap! We had luck too, we stayed just two in a 5 bed room. They have cooperation with Sandeman which offers free city tours. We took the East Berlin tour and it was very professional and useful. Yesterday I realised that they have a tour for West Berlin too, I regret that I didn't read it before.
In Berlin there are many memorials related to World War II, Hitler and German Democratic Republic regimes (On the ground there is a photo of people who striked against government and killed by Russian soldiers). None of these memorials has information sign boards, you should interpret what the memorial means.
Did you notice the colour difference between statues on the building and the building itself? Before World War II Hitler let the statues moved into rivers to protect them and buildings were damaged during the war by bombings. After reconstruction they placed the old statues back. This explanation helps you to image the condition of the city after the war.
The city is still under construction in many parts and it's going to be changed a lot in next years. As I'm writing this post and searching for information about Berlin I realised that I didn't see much from Berlin, I could see more. But that might be a reason to go there once more sometime.
By the way I didn't miss the chance to have at least one Berliner (they call it Pfannkuchen there) and some other yummy desserts. You can find my Berlin photos here
