Barcelona -the colourful city

I arrived in Barcelona at noon on Saturday and it took more than 2 hours for me to get to the hostel Inout. It is the best hostel I've ever stayed in and cheapest at the same time, it's just tough to walk uphill with heavy bags.

It was almost 4 pm. as I was in city centre again and started my sightseeing in old city area after lunch, a sandwich. I actually wanted to follow my guide books but I wasn't able to. I lost my orientation completely, might be because of crowd (yes I got used to not to see many people on streets in Bonn), and was forgeting names of the streets or squares I intended to go, because of Spanish I guess. It was mainly shopping, trying to find turist attractions near by and not a pricy restaurant for dinner on Saturday.

I spent quite a lot of time in La Rambla and in side streets. But it's not the best part of Barcelona I think. On Sunday I was discovering beautiful Gaudi buildings. I just wonder why we don't see that kind of buildings much. Hundertwasser Houses were designed with the inspiration of Gaudi's design but they are not so many. If it was posible to build that kind of buildings 100 years ago it should be posible to do it now too.

I visited the most beautiful and impressive temple I've ever seen in my life, Sagrada Familia. It doesn't have that gloomy atmosphere other churches have and it was more attractive for me surprisingly. I lost myself with taking photos. As I was going down from the top of the cathedral I was feeling sick because of narrow helical dark stairs, I never had that before. So if you are sensitive for high buildings consider it twice before you go up.

Monday 23rd of April was a special day in Catalonia, Sant Jordi (Saint George). Men give to their mothers, sisters, wife, girl friends roses in every colour but mostly red and women give them book as gift. Especially on Monday streets were full with rose and book stands and it was very crowded.

I enjoyed my 3 days in Barcelona very much. On Monday I had no energy to see other parts of the city, totally I walked over 20 hours in 3 days. If you look at the photos you can follow the story better and might have the desire to go there.

Cities I'd like to go during my internshiphomesick...
