Barcelona, once again!

I have decided to go to Barcelona as a friend of mine was going with her friends, just to enjoy the sunshine and her pleasant company on a long weekend. We were 5 people and just she knew everyone and rest got to know eachother in Barcelona. We were extremely good at being in concert with others and I guess everyone enjoyed the trip as much.

I spent most of my day time on the beach and a little in shops  well also at police station in last 2 days. My handbag got stolen as we were sitting in a cafe for breakfast/lunch with belongings like purse, belgian residence card, credit card, camera, house keys, etc. I must say the theft(s) was/were very professional, nobody noticed even someone passed by until I realised my bag was not on the floor anymore (I even had to spend a few minutes to convince my friends that my bag was gone ). Fortunately my passport was not in the bag and I could take the plane to Brussels without any problem thanks to the police report. I probably wouldn't know what to do without money, debit card, phone numbers I might need if I've been alone but I was lucky and could enjoy the rest of my stay. And next time I will be much more careful, especially when I am with friends since they give you a feeling of being safer.

No photos for sure until I purchase a new camera Homer: Doh!

Barcelona -the colourful city

I arrived in Barcelona at noon on Saturday and it took more than 2 hours for me to get to the hostel Inout. It is the best hostel I've ever stayed in and cheapest at the same time, it's just tough to walk uphill with heavy bags.

It was almost 4 pm. as I was in city centre again and started my sightseeing in old city area after lunch, a sandwich. I actually wanted to follow my guide books but I wasn't able to. I lost my orientation completely, might be because of crowd (yes I got used to not to see many people on streets in Bonn), and was forgeting names of the streets or squares I intended to go, because of Spanish I guess. It was mainly shopping, trying to find turist attractions near by and not a pricy restaurant for dinner on Saturday.

I spent quite a lot of time in La Rambla and in side streets. But it's not the best part of Barcelona I think. On Sunday I was discovering beautiful Gaudi buildings. I just wonder why we don't see that kind of buildings much. Hundertwasser Houses were designed with the inspiration of Gaudi's design but they are not so many. If it was posible to build that kind of buildings 100 years ago it should be posible to do it now too.

I visited the most beautiful and impressive temple I've ever seen in my life, Sagrada Familia. It doesn't have that gloomy atmosphere other churches have and it was more attractive for me surprisingly. I lost myself with taking photos. As I was going down from the top of the cathedral I was feeling sick because of narrow helical dark stairs, I never had that before. So if you are sensitive for high buildings consider it twice before you go up.

Monday 23rd of April was a special day in Catalonia, Sant Jordi (Saint George). Men give to their mothers, sisters, wife, girl friends roses in every colour but mostly red and women give them book as gift. Especially on Monday streets were full with rose and book stands and it was very crowded.

I enjoyed my 3 days in Barcelona very much. On Monday I had no energy to see other parts of the city, totally I walked over 20 hours in 3 days. If you look at the photos you can follow the story better and might have the desire to go there.

Ready for Barcelona

Again it's traveling time! Tomorrow I'm flying to Barcelona to stay there for 3 days. I'm more excited after I saw photos in guidebooks (as you can see I have 3 now) and in Google Earth. The buildings designed by Gaudi are so beatiful (at least on photos) that I'm confused to take my bikini with me for sun bathing for couple of hours. I'd love to walk as much as I can, it's my advantage going alone because not everyone I know would like to walk as much as I do.

Booking bed is another story but luckily ended happily. I waited until last Monday because a colleague of mine has a friend in Barcelona and he could find me a room but my colleague was in holiday. At the end he told me on Monday that it would be very expensive for me. I waited 2 more days I don't know exactly why and on Thursday morning 2 hostels I called didn't have any free beds for this Saturday. In the afternoon I couldn't find any other hostels free but last night I could book a bed in hostel out of the city but it looks nice at the photos.
