Acupuncture Acupuncture and Autism

, ,

It is an growing reality that autism has been affecting a single one in a 1000 to 1 in 500 children. There are actually no actual theories that clearly defined why these numbers are rising. There are old theories of vaccines, viruses, antibiotics, nutrition and environmental pollution wax and wane that have already been largely discounted.

Due to the fact that autism is a complex condition to deal with, many parents are experimenting with alternative therapies to sought help for their children.

Children with autism are guided by the western orthodox approach which treats children by improving and developing their social and communication skills. As of the moment, there is no definite cure for Autism. This leads the parents to try alternative therapies, one of which is acupuncture. Although, autism is not recognized by Traditional Chinese Medicine, it still proves to provide symptomatic relief to autistic children.

Yet, it will be very challenging to the autistic child and his parents at the beginning, the outcomes would somehow tell them that its all worth it.

The process of traditional acupuncture involves the technique in which the patient lay still for long periods; enduring the close contact to a stranger and also the all-encompassing insertion of needles.

There's still one other type of acupuncture that kids with autism can consider which is Paediatric acupuncture. It just involves a quick prick with the use of very thin needles at pressure points. On the other hand, acupressure is an ideal treatment for those who may want a less invasive treatment.

In connection with this, a study was made in the United States to study the effect of acupuncture on the brains of autistic children. The method is like this: Children with autism underwent the acupuncture treatment once every second day in a period of four months. Right after acupuncture treatment, majority of the kids demonstrated significant progress in comparison to their condition just before undergoing the therapy.

Professionals in this arena believe that a collective approach to diet and alternative therapies may bring symptomatic relief to kids with autism by further improving their mood and communication skills. However, no specific cure can be achieved but a mere improvement of their condition.
