We're all on a quest for healthy foods to lose weight. Most of us have a definition of good health that includes your weight and percentage of body fat. If somebody said they were healthy, we'd expect them to be slim and trim without any excess fat. Healthy foods shouldn't cause us to put on weight, but what are healthy foods to lose weight?
The short answer is Yes, there are healthy foods to lose weight. And I am not talking about some special foods that speed up our metabolism or secretly burn fat. But what I am talking about is manipulating our diet and therefore our hormones so the body does not store fat. To understand a little bit more there are two things we need to cover. Firstly what constitutes a healthy food and secondly why or how can it help us to lose weight.
The first step is so easy that anybody can do it - stop eating processed foods and instead eat natural. Processed foods are those that are packaged in bags, cartons, jars, bottles, cans and so forth. You can also tell it's processed by looking at the expiration date. No natural food stays good for over a week. If you get rid of the processed stuff, you're left with lots of choices - meat, fish, poultry, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. By cutting out processed foods, you largely get rid of starchy foods that are high in carbohydrates like pasta, bread, cereal and other foods that are based on corn, wheat or flour. These foods are responsible for lots of health problems all over the world including heart disease, obesity and diabetes.
Getting rid of foods that are high in carbohydrates gets us back to a more natural diet. We often call this the "paleo diet" because it resembles what our ancestors ate before they became farmers. Scientific literature is starting to show that this approach is a great way to lose weight. What they haven't agreed on until recently his how this diet of reduced carbs helps. The real reason is that it lowers the effects of your body's insulin.
Let me explain this in layman's terms. Your pancreas releases the hormone insulin in order to control the blood sugar level. Insulin is what turns sugar into fuel when there's too much in the blood. It's also influential in fat storage. When you're taking in too many carbohydrates, it causes your body to store more fat. When there's this excess blood sugar over a long period of time, your body's cells start to lose their sensitivity to insulin. Then, the body releases more and this causes more fat storage, which means that it becomes a vicious cycle.
So there are healthy foods to lose weight and it has to do with regulating carbohydrate intake and therefore insulin. This results in regulating the body's fat storage mechanisms. Forget counting calories, eating tasteless low fat food and the next fad diet. Eat more healthy foods and less processed foods, like we were designed to eat and restore your body to the lean (non-fat storing) machine that it is suppose to be.
