Why are taxis yellow?

Why are taxis yellow ?
Because Hertz, the original taxicab businessman found that yellow was a colour easily noticeable in a sea of cars !

"In these days I rise "- a poem by Alexandra Ekkelenkamp

"in these days I rise
rise
with crows
dawn on their feathers
screeching
copper on metal throats
cutting through clouds
awakening
awakening the grey sun
whilst I rise
rise
painted wrists flapping
catching air between fingers
dropping Memory
into an ornate lake"

A good poem. The crows at dawn screetching with their metallic copper throats is a very evocative image .Painted wrists flapping perhaps refer to the clapping sound arising from beating the wind between palms or may be, to birds rising from the lake, their wings fluttering like clapping hands beating the air between them. The memory probably refers to the ripples caused by their ascent.
