Quake 4

Another winner from id software. I picked up Quake 4 a week ago so my son (who is 17) and I can play the game together. It has become a kind of ritual almost. When he comes to visit from Florida (I live in New Jersey) we find a game and play it until we beat it!!!
Once we sarted we could'nt stop. A great game and great fun. You can see the similarities to Doom 3, which is another great game, but it is different enough that you dont feel like your playing Doom 3 all over again. First of all, through out the game at different intervals you play with a squad or sometimes one or two,sqaud members. Their AI is excellent and they truly help kill the baddies. Also one of them is ussualy a tech and the other is a medic. They help you regain your armor and health, respectevly.
And speaking of baddies, there is an excellent variety of bad guys, so much so that you dont feel like your killing the same one over and over. Their AI is also excellent. They duck and roll and move side to side to avoid your gunfire and it never becomes predictable. The further you get along in the game the bigger and badder they get.. The last 4 levels alone are worth the price of admission.
Also there is a storyline and just enough cut scenes to keep it interesting.
There are levels in which you use a tank, a walker, and a tram that are excellent.
The graphics and maps are phenominal, and the game runs very smoothly. I have a P4 2.6GHZ
1 GIG of ram and an nVidia 5700se 256 ram vid card, and I have the settings on the game set to high. Smoothe as silk.
The game is long, about 30 levels to go through, so you deffinitly get your money's worth.
All in all, a great game and loads of fun.
One small knock on the game. When looking through windows on the outside world, it could have been rendered a little better. But that is really nit-picking. So I give it a 9.5 out of 10.
