We are commonly disturbed by this impacted teeth. usually this happen for wisdom teeth. Let us know about this. That is impacted teeth? A tooth may remain unerupted or partially erupted in the mouth. Furthr, a partially erupted tooth may be malpositioned in the dental arch(Jaw). A tooth should be termed as impacted only if the rooth formation is complete and yet it has not erupted fully upto the final position. An impacted tooth is the one whose normal eruption is impeded in the mouth and it fails to assume its normal anatomical arch relationship. such a tooth does not gain its position even beyond the chronological eruption date. With the advancement of civilization thy quality of food is changing from hard fibrous food to soft cooked food. this is probably one single factor which is responsible for reduction in size of jaws for want of growth stimulus due to jaw exercise. Hence many teeth are known to remain impacted. such teeth try to erupt at their normal place in ther dental arch but fail to do so for want of availability of space. There are many problems associated with these teeth even if these do not erupt compelling the patient to seek treatment for the surgical removal of such teeth.
Causes:
Local Causes: 1. Irregularity in position of tooth especially when it buries under he crown of adjacent tooth.
2.Increased density of he overlying or surrounding bone.
3. Increased density of the overlying mucosa due to chronic inflamation.
4. Problems of space in the jaws due to their underdevelopment. etc
Systemic causes:1 Heredity seems to play an important role in this connection.
2. Systemic conditions that may interfere with the normal development of child can be a cause for impacted teeth without local predisposing factors eg. rickets, anaemia, tuberculosis etc.
3. Certain rare conditions where there are skeletal deformities.
4. Celft lip and cleft palate are the congenital fissures that may manifest impacted canines and third molars.
Complication are developed such as infection, pain, fracture of jaw, trismus, chronic cheek biting ,
malalignment of other teeth etc.
You need to diagnose the problem if such complication persist for several days to week. If diagnosis become as impacted teeth then what you should do ?
For wisdom teeth it should extract the teeth otherwise complication persist.
If impaction is beauty teeth(canine) then if there is some space your dentist may try to repositioning the teeth by both surgical and orthodontic treatment.
