Iron Maiden の名曲“Aces High”は、スタジオ・バージョンには含まれていないものの、それ以外は最初に必ず演説が入る。これはウィンストン・チャーチルが首相に任命されたときの有名な1940年就任演説。

We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.

我々は最後まで進み続けるのだ、我々はフランスで戦うのだ、我々は浜で海で戦うのだ、増してゆく自信と増してゆく力をもって我々は空で戦うのだ、我々はこの島を守るのだ、どんな犠牲を払おうとも、我々は海岸で戦うのだ、我々は上陸地で戦うのだ、我々は野で戦うのだ、街で戦うのだ、我々は山で戦うのだ。我々は絶対に負けはしない。

以上は、ドイツに対して宣戦布告したイギリスの首相兼国防相に就いたチャーチルの歴史的な就任演説。1940年6月4日に行われたこの演説で、本土決戦も辞さない覚悟を示し、国民に挙国一致を求めた。この直後の10日にフランス政府はパリを放棄して21日にはドイツに対して正式に降伏、西部戦線はイギリスへと広がっていく。
