Opera 9.50 Beta 2 on AMD64 (x86_64) [no longer seriously flawed]

This morning on the Ubuntu Hardy forums I saw a post on the latest Beta 2 version for my platform (build 1933). I'm not even going to post the link here, because after downloading it and trying to use it, I gave up in disgust and went back to the Beta 1 version (see my first blog post for the relevant link).

Problems:
  1. Network: Connectivity was not there for many pages when directly clicking on links or searching via the search bar. The pages were found if the link was typed in the ordinary URI bar;
  2. Display: The page rendering was absolutely terrible. I felt like I was using IE 5.5 or Netscape 3!
There are probably many more issues, but the short of it is that Beta 1 works, to all intents and purposes, perfectly while Beta 2 has serious issues.

Edit: After two comments on my blog (where I am running 9.50 beta 1, build 1643), I decided to give Opera 9.50 beta 2 another go. In the meanwhile I see that the build version has increased from 1933 up to 1983 by 23 May 2008, so I will use snapshot 1983.

Edit: After installing snapshot 1983 I am delighted to discover that all the bugs previously noted in what I surmise was snapshot 1933 have disappeared and that my opera blog page among others renders perfectly well. I'm happy to conclude that opera 9.50 beta 2 build 1983 works perfectly well on my machine now! Thank you readers for your comments.

Odd, it's working just fine for me on x86_64 Fedora 8. I wonder what's different.

I am a developer in the Opera Desktop team, and I use Debian Lenny on x86_64; can't see either of the issues you describe. Please report bugs or contact me via private messaging. I'll need more specific information to reproduce the problems: what pages you were trying to load, what links you clicked, what was wrong with rendering.

The mystery remains unsolved, but at least it doesn't bother you anymore.
