That should scare most of them away (the rest I'll take care of personally)

when in kakinada for my summer vacation some 11 years ago, my sister and i went to this math teacher's home in the late afternoons for lessons to keep us occupied.

while there, there was this other girl who was of the same age as i, and we were given co-ordinate geometry problems. my sister who's a year younger than i, was given algebra problems.

right in the middle of some serious co-ordinate geometry, we were interrupted by the teacher loudly exclaiming, "This is brilliant. Did you see your sister's solutions? She creatively used k, l, p, v and other relevant symbols to represent the various items given in the word problems. She isn't using the boring x and y letters everyone uses. Did YOU ever think of anything like this? I bet you didn't. She's really brilliant. Excellent work!" The girl and I look at each other, look down in our workbooks at all the x's and y's we've written to represent the co-ordinates and lift our heads to glare angrily at my sister. i still have an inferiority complex about the whole thing.

never knew the girl's name or what became of her. don't know what happened to that maths teacher too. if there's any justice she's doing great in a high paying job and living it up with an exciting life and he's teaching 3rd class students who are very very rude to him and comment on his shape (or the lack thereof) everyday.

the quote - deep? yup. shallow? you betcha. naive and silly? probably. horribly wrong? most undoubtedly.
