That should scare most of them away (the rest I'll take care of personally)

Vista Wallpaper Repository

,

I pulled a lot of good wallpapers from various sources and put them up on my Picasa web page. I'd have done it right here, but I wasn't too keen on keeping opera busy with uploading one or two zip files with 140MB worth of images. Besides, it's automatic in Picasa.

Hope you like em. Cannot upload the full sized-versions for obvious reasons. Please feel free to look for the high quality images online. I'm sure a simple search will get them for you. While you're at it, also check out the Vladstudio set for widescreens that apple keeps putting up in their downloads for OS X section.

This place is dead.

In any case, still in search of that job thingy. Let's see how it goes.

Meanwhile, have this as my desktop:

I wouldn't watch this space. For a while, atleast.

Oh... what?

Were you waiting for something? I'm sorry, I have no punch line for this.

It's just that I saw this last night and was hooked for all of 45 seconds - the longest I've stayed on one channel continuously. That's all.

By the way, NewsCorp owns Fox and MySpace doesn't it? Just checking.

I'd buy that

My first thought when I saw the picture was that the girl was Asian. Well, the second thought maybe (first thought - beautiful!). I'm so sorry, but I oddly find that frightening.

Is it just me?

Edit: the .Gif animation thing in Opera makes it match the speed of IE, so, if you want the GIF playing at normal speed, try opening it in Firefox if you're on Opera.

From an online community of Mumbaikers. Link coming soon.

Dear Terrorist(s),

Even if you don't read this we don't care. Time and again you tried to disturb us and disrupt our life - killing innocent civilians by planting bombs in trains, buses and cars. You have tried hard to bring death and destruction, cause panic and fear and create communal disharmony but everytime you were disgustingly unsuccessful. Do you know how we pass our life in Mumbai? How much it takes for us to earn that single rupee? If you wanted to shock us then we are sorry to say that you failed miserably in your ulterior motives. Better look elsewere, not here.

We are not Hindus and Muslims or Gujaratis and Marathis or Punjabis and Bengaliies. Nor do we distinguish ourselves as owners or workers, govt. employees or private employees. WE ARE MUMBAIKERS (Bombay-ites, if you like). We will not allow you to disrupt our life like this. On the last few occassions when you struck (including the 7 deadly blasts in a single day killing over 250 people and injuring 500+ in 1993), we went to work the very next day in full strength. This time we cleared everything within a few hours and were back to normal - the vendors placing their next order, businessmen finalizing the next deals and the office workers rushing to catch the next train. (Yes the same train you targetted)

Fathom this: Within 3 hours of the blasts, long queues of blood donating volunteers were seen outside various hospitals, where most of the injured were admitted. By 12 midnight, the hospitals had to issue a notification that blood banks were full and they didn't require any more blood. The next day, attendance at schools and office was close to 100%, trains & buses were packed to the brim, the crowds were back. The city has simply dusted itself off and moved one - perhaps with greater vigour.

We are Mumbaikers and we live like brothers in times like this. So, do not dare to threaten us with your [Edit:"Fire"]crackers. The spirit of Mumbai is very strong and can not be harmed.

With Love,
From the people of Mumbai (Bombay)

Car Juke Box

Finally catching up with my links. Used to spend hours on The Cool Hunter trying to wrap my head around the idea that people actually think these things up and some bring them to life. There still might be hope for the world after all.

This particular little gizmo is a little dohickey which retrieves the car of your dreams from the heavens as you watch. Well, not really the heavens, just from the slot in which it was placed, but should give you goose bumps watching the car you've chosen glide down from above to eye level.

Made these as profile buttons/avatars and then went on to make this for his webpage.

I just hope that this wasn't a complete waste of time.

Gotta jot this down before I forget

here was a gathering of Vietnamese students and faculty of our college (or school - whatever) today to protest the percieved injustice meted out to them by the University of Texas at Arlington. The crux of the matter is, about a month ago, in the annual international student event, the present flag of the communist regime in Vietnam was paraded rather than this flag. The students gathered in a parking lot today and the police even blocked the roads leading to the parking lot - there must have been a march planned or something.

In any case, I would have missed all of this if I hadn't gone past the parking lot on my way to get my hair cut. The lady at the salon (which coincidentally happens to be under Vietnamese management - and I think the lady is incharge of the place) told me that today was the anniversary of a "very bad day for my people". I suppose we (i.e. Indians) have those too (Jallianwalah Bagh comes to mind). She then told me that this was the day that 30 years ago her people lost their country to the present government. The thought suddenly went into my head - we got our independence 50 years ago - and we've steadily been losing our country. I was shocked that I had convinced myself that. Or was I just trying to compete with her on a nationalistic level? :eyes:
